The system uses dual-laser LiDAR -- similar to what is used in self-driving cars and is able to scan an area of up to 32 feet by 270 degrees. This results in more precise mapping, faster response times, and higher cleaning accuracy.

It also comes with a rotating mopping pad constructed of chenille fabric. This makes it much easier to scrub difficult spots unlike traditional mops. In my tests it was able to clean the X2 Omni washed its pad in just a few seconds and then got to work. I noticed that it was more accurate than other models which seemed to follow a grid around rooms. It was able to navigate around corners and edges of my rooms and also make "Zambani patterns" both in and out of the middle of the room. It also returned to its OMNI station frequently to empty the dustbin and clean the mop using hot water prior to beginning another cleaning job.

The X2 Omni is just as simple to use and set up as the other Ecovacs products. It takes only a few minutes to snap the dock into its place, plug it into and connect it to your Wi-Fi network at home. You can then launch the app to begin your first cleaning task. I was able dive into the settings and personalize my floor plan in about 15 minutes, incorporating zones that are restricted to sweep and mop as well as reworking my wall-mounted furniture placements, and more. It's a mid-range robot cleaner that's attractive even if the promise of being a one-stop-shop for floor cleaning does not make sense.

The X8 Hybrid looks like a standard robotic vacuum cleaner from the top with its circular design with sweeping wheels and an elevated area for sensors. However, flip it over you'll see an electric floor brush as well as a single side sweeper brush which pushes dirt from the edges into the main path of the robot's mouth. It's a bit smaller than the main brushes of the iRobot Roomba S9, which I found to be easier to fit under chairs and sofas.

Its navigation system is basic and uses an extremely basic random pathing algorithm that isn't equipped with room mapping capabilities, making it less efficient than the other models on this list. It's still able to navigate under furniture and in the corners. And its mopping mode performed very well in our tests by picking up hairs and other debris.

Shark's iQ may not be as well-built, but it is better at cleaning pet hair from all surfaces. It cleans floors that are bare more efficiently and does a decent job on carpets with a low pile and uses smart-pathing navigational technology for better maneuverability. It can be positioned to a particular area and includes a variety of advanced automation features, including no-go zones and schedules. It allows you to stop and resume cleaning, making it perfect for homes with pets.

The self-cleaning brushroll is able to prevent the tangles caused by pet hair and other debris and its bagless self-emptying dock station can store up to 30 days worth of dirt before needing to be cleaned. It also has an array of angled side brushes that go deep into corners, and its multi-stage filtration system can capture dust, dander, and allergens for cleaner air.

The iQ robot vacuum is well-built and feels solid. It works with a smartphone application that lets you change the settings of your vacuum and schedule cleaning times ahead of time.
