Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

Following a series of social media posts hinting at it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally revealed its NFT (non fungible token) Project. The project is dubbed Space Key and developed in collaboration with an unknown artist the project is inspired by a piece advanced carbon fiber composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station for research purposes.

After numerous social media posts teasing some kind of space-themed item, the Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini launched its non-fungible (NFT) tokens through an exclusive project dubbed Space Key. Developed in collaboration with an unknown artist The NFT is a collectible item that will be auctioned off in a couple of weeks. It is a piece made of carbon fiber composite material that was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in the year 2019 as part of an ongoing research project. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to create the base of each Space Key, which is connected to an exclusive, purely digital artwork via the QR code printed on the back of the key. Only five Space Keys were produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that are recorded in distributed ledgers, such as the Blockchain, and connected to digital assets like pictures. It's a hot topic with people with more money than common sense. It was just a matter of time until automakers decided to take advantage of.

After weeks of social media posts hinting at it, luxury automobile manufacturer Lamborghini has finally announced its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. It's called the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT by the unidentified artist. It was created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) the 'collector's piece' is limited to just five units and will soon be auctioned off.

Each Space Key contains a block composed of carbon-fired composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a research project in 2019. After returning to Earth, it was made into an QR code that connects it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that occurs only seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Over 600 million pixels make each of the five images, which were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used an inflatable camera equipped with lenses to capture the individual images, which were then added to the final picture. The result is an out of this world image that captures the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic view of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and time of the auction hasn't been set yet.

The auctions will run from February 1 until February 4. They will last 75 hours and 50 minutes, which is the time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter the Lunar orbit. By registering online, you can bid on five NFTs. Each NFT will be sold individually and the winner will be awarded a digital artwork by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments that the Space Key experienced during its flight through space.
