I tried the ION XL with our standard test for debris in a family room as well as a kitchen with hardwood flooring and area rug. It was excellent at vacuuming, clearing pet hair and debris off the floors, and also picked up some of the more stubborn crumbs that accumulated on carpets. It also did a great job moving and didn't hit my barstools like the iRobot j7+ in this test. The only issue is that the IONXL cannot detect toys, cords or shoes that may be in its path so you will have to pre-clean your house before running this best robot vacuum with self empty vacuum if you want it to avoid these items.

The ION XL robotic cleaner isn't as smart as the iRobot J7+, but it's a great alternative if you don't want to spend more than $500 on a robotic. It's better than the eufy RoboVac 11S in most ways, including being more easy to maintain and requiring lower recurring costs. It is also better in vacuuming floors that are not clean and removing pet fur, but it isn't as effective on low- or carpets with higher pile.

It is also not as well-built as the Roborock S8, but it is a great alternative. The ION XL has a large bin capacity, and it can be controlled with an app and voice command, and it is simple to keep up with maintenance. It also comes at affordable.
