I tested the ION XL using our standard test for debris in a family room and kitchen with hardwood floors and area rugs. It was excellent at vacuuming and removing pet hair, debris, and even some of the more difficult to remove carpet crumbs. It was also adept at maneuvering and didn't bump into my bar stools as did the iRobot j7+ in this test. The only issue with the ION XL is that it can't detect shoes, cords, or toys within its path. It is recommended to clean your home before you start this robotic vacuum if want it to avoid them.

The ION XL robotic cleaner is not as intelligent as the iRobot j7+ but it's a good alternative if you don't want to spend more than $500 on a robotic. It's better than the eufy RoboVac 11S in most ways it is also simpler to maintain and incurring lower recurring expenses. It also performs better at vacuuming bare floors and removing pet hair, but it doesn't perform as well on low- or high-pile carpet.

It's not as robust but it's still a solid option. The ION XL is a powerful machine with a huge capacity bin. It can be controlled via an app or voice command and is easy to maintain. It also has an affordable price.
