A quality robot vacuum cleaner can make a significant difference in the elimination of allergens, such as dust and pet hair. However, not all models are identical.

If you're looking for an animal-friendly vacuum or simply a good robot to supplement your other vacuum, there are many options.

1. Eufy RoboVac Edge G30

The G30 Edge, the latest model from Eufy's budget range of robotic vacuum cleaners is the most up-to-date model. It's a glossy black model with blue and rose-gold accents that look like the design of a smartphone. This model is easier to use than the previous models and offers features such as BoostIQ that automatically increases suction power for cleaner cleaning of all surfaces. It also employs intelligent navigation to prevent repeating the same area over and over, an issue that is common with simpler bounce-navigation systems.

It does a good job picking up pet hair, crumbs and dust from hard floors, but falls behind the best self-emptying robot vacuum for pet hair models in terms of getting rid of dust from carpet. In our tests, the G30 Edge missed 74% of the dust on hard floors, and 26 percent on carpets which is a bit disappointing.

A feature that makes the G30 Edge stand out is its ability to map your home using an electronic map that is available in the app. This lets it remember which rooms it has cleaned previously and avoid returning to those areas which is a major problem with other robots that rely on the use of magnetic tape to delineate no-go zones.

The G30 Edge also has other features. It comes with a "Find My Robot" mode that emits loud music until it is located, and a directional keypad that lets you move the robot. It also has a built-in auto return function that can send it back to its charging base if the battery is depleted, an important security feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape is an impressively capable robot with a plethora of smart features. It cleans floors that are bare well, and it can climb on carpets with high piles fairly easily. The app comes with advanced features, such as boundary lines and remote access to the robot while it is operating, and many other options.

This model is the most recent in a long line of Neato robots and is distinguished by its unique "D" shape when viewed from above. This design comes with a variety of advantages, including improved corner cleaning and a larger dust container than other models. The D-shape allows the robot to get under furniture more easily than models that have a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly stop before starting a cleaning cycle to use spinning infrared to scan and assess the area. Then it will work in a grid, systematically moving from one area to the next until the entire floor has been covered. This method of cleaning is much more effective and thorough than the random approach used by certain competitors.

The design of the D-Shape allows it to have a huge 700ml dust container compared to 400-600ml for robots of similar price. This increased capacity means that you'll have to empty the bin less often, saving you time and effort. The D-Shape has a flat side on the front, which helps to maneuver around obstacles like chairs and tables. In our tests the D-Shape did end up getting stuck under a four-legged stool as well as an electrical cord that was not covered, though it was able to get out every time.

3. Roomba i3+ EVO

The Roomba i3+ EVO is an excellent choice for pet owners. It works well on hard floors, and it does an excellent job of removing dirt such as pet hair, cereal, rice and other small particles. It is a bit shaky on carpet but is still better than the majority of robots in this price range. The Roomba i3+ EVO is also extremely efficient in navigating between different flooring types and doesn't get caught on transitions like older generations can. The dual multi-surface rubber brushes can adapt to different flooring types and prevent the tangles in pet hair.

The i3+ EVO's obstacle avoidance isn't as robust as the other robots we tested, and it repeatedly ran into objects in our tests such as handbags shoes, and pet toys before continuing on its path. It also had trouble with coarse sea salt, which it blew around instead of taking it up.

The i3+ EVO has a lot of features that make it worth the additional cost over other Roomba models, such as the ability to empty the dustbin automatically and advanced control via the app. It is possible to schedule cleanings, set specific routines and set zones that do not want the robot enter. Its smart scheduling will even suggest extra cleaning during allergy seasons, and according to the routine you follow. Its navigation system isn't reliable and sometimes vacuums in erratic patterns such as diagonals or zigzags instead of parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty XL

This intelligent robot is able to trace your home's layout in detail, better than you. It comes with dual brushes that adjust to different kinds of flooring and prevent getting caught up in. This makes it the ideal option for homes with pets. You can use the app to control the robot, or activate it using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The dock, named Omni, automates tasks like filling and cleaning the robot's water tank, emptying the debris bin, and charging and drying the mop pads.

It's a fantastic value. The Shark AI Self-Empty XL is cheaper than a lot of other robots we've reviewed and yet comes with advanced features like mapping and an automatic self-emptying trash bin that can hold a lot of trash. We tried it out in a home with a mix of bare floors and low-pile carpeting and found it to move and clean extremely well, even navigating corners. The vacuum also does a good job of picking up pet hair from carpets but it's not equipped with the same power as some of our top selections.

However, the Roborock S4 Max is better built, Robot Vacuum For Pet Hair takes much less time to recharge than the Shark, and provides an array of automation and scheduling features, including support for no-go zones. Shark is still a great option if you're looking for something less expensive or prefer to control and monitor your system with your smartphone instead of the remote.

5. Bissell SpinWave Dry and Wet

This robot can do mopping and vacuuming. The dual tank system of this robot lets it mop or vacuum with the press of the button. In our tests, it was able to effortlessly switch between surfaces and was great at picking up pet fur from carpets and hardwood floors. It also comes with an edge-sweeping brush that can remove pet hair from baseboards and walls, and scheduling capabilities to fit your schedule.

This robot is a great option if you're seeking a model that is affordable and has some extra features. It was able to maneuver around obstacles in our tests and is controlled via an app or your voice. It also supports scheduled cleaning and has a large dustbin to capture mess before they get full. The only downside is that it could take up to 166 minutes to complete its task however, it's still faster than the majority of robots we've examined.

The highlight of this robot is its front-facing camera that allows you to monitor your home's cleanliness using a live map in the app. It's especially useful if you're trying to find an item that you're looking for or your kids spill glitter from your Christmas decorations all over your floors. It can save you a lot of frustration by locating the missing item immediately. The fade-free lithium batteries can last up to 130 minutes on one charge.

6. Roomba 694

The Roomba 694 looks upscale and offers a thorough cleaning. It's very adept at maneuvering and can get under low-level furniture without stumbling. It's also a great choice for carpets with low pile. However, it could get caught in rug tassels, and may have trouble finding its way through tight spaces such as corners. It also has trouble collecting pet hair from all surfaces.

The 694 is better than the majority of its competitors despite its limited features. It scored a perfect 10 in our test of cereal carpet, and did well in our test of cat litter with just a few scattered pieces. It's less effective on hardwood floors, though. Its side brush often scatters large, clinging cereal bits instead of vacuuming them up. It also had a hard time collecting table salt from a dry floor, with many grains sliding across the floor, and out of its reach.

It does support app control through the iRobot HOME app, as well as voice commands using Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant (via an external device, which is sold separately). It learns your habits of cleaning and offers personalized schedules. Cliff Detect and an edge-sweeping brush will ensure it is able to reach difficult-to-access corners. Dirt Detect sensors alert it to heavily soiled areas. The battery lasts for about 60 minutes, and it comes with an automatic emptying of the dust bin. The more expensive iRobot J7 is more advanced and better on all surfaces. It also feels better built and has a bigger dust bin that charges faster, and is able to navigate obstacles such as electrical cords more easily.
