What You Need to Know About Your Nissan Key Fob

You've lost your Nissan keyfob or it has stopped functioning. Before you contact the dealership or panic, retrace your steps to see where you last saw it.

It's not a big deal to change the battery on your Nissan key fob. You'll soon get the hang out of it.

Smart Keys

The key fob included with your Nissan is a vital part of its incredibly advanced keyless entry system. It connects to the vehicle's electronics to open doors or start the engine and comes with a handy design that is easy to carry around. A key fob can also provide convenience features like the lockout protection feature, which ensures that you won't leave the vehicle with keys inside.

Unlike previous models of key fobs, which required you place the key in the ignition slot to gain access to the onboard systems of your vehicle, smart keys work wirelessly. When you walk by the vehicle, your Nissan detects the Intelligent Key fob's proximity to it and activates its internal functions. This could include opening and closing the doors, raising or lowering the tailgate, or even launching the engine.

Some smart key models feature a hidden metal key to serve as a valet parking device. The key can be pulled by a release that is located on the back of Smart Key fobs to lock the trunk or glovebox prior to giving it to a valet. The Smart Key fob has a charging pocket that can be used to charge the battery even when it is not in use.

If your Nissan's Intelligent Key fob isn't working as it should, you'll require a replacement of its batteries. The owner's manual will give the steps to change the batteries in most fobs.

Intelligent Key Fob

Nissan Intelligent Key Fobs enable you to open your car's doors and turn on the engine at pressing a button. You can also select a set of presets to meet your needs such as setting the mirrors and seats to maximize comfort. You can also control the music via your smartphone so you don't have to leave your car.

Intelligent Key Fob have a built-in antenna which transmits an alert when you approach your vehicle or press one of its buttons. When the vehicle receives this signal and the system is activated for locking and unlocking doors, starting the engine, or opening the trunk. To test the fob out remove yourself from your vehicle and press on the buttons. If the lights flash or the horn sounds sound, you have successfully programmed the Intelligent Key Fob.

Like all remotes, Intelligent Key fobs require batteries to operate. If the battery in yours is depleted and you need to replace it, our Parts Department can help you replace it swiftly and easily. To do this, simply remove the key from its hidden compartment and then open the battery compartment of your key fob. Replace the old battery with a brand new one after taking out the old one. Make sure the positive side of the new battery is facing in the same direction as it did with the previous one. Finally close the compartment for the battery and return the key to its hidden location inside the case.

Remote Start

Lockout Protection

Lockout protection eliminates the nuisance of lockouts that are caused by the impedance relay failing. A special module within the power control unit checks for the activity of the impedance relay and then shuts off the output. This feature is only available on vehicles that have the Smart Key system or through the personalization menu of the vehicle.

Many serious accidents have occurred because of a machine that was running when it should have been turned off to prevent maintenance or repair. These accidents are usually caused by energy that hasn't been released correctly. Lock-out tag-out (LOTO) systems help to prevent these accidents by making sure that machines are completely off until a person authorized releases them.

The LOTO system is comprised of a number of locks tags, locks, and other equipment that are used to isolate, secure or block the device from electrical power. All "affected" and "authorized" personnel should be trained on the use of these lockout/tag-out devices. These devices include, but aren't restricted to chains, locks, and padlocks. Each device is uniquely identified and labeled, indicating the date and the time it was put in use along with the name and title of the authorized person and the reason for the lockout/tagout (repairs, maintenance and maintenance, etc.). It should be stated clearly that these devices cannot be removed until a complete LOTO procedure has been followed.
