BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost utilizes the CAN data bus to communicate with your vehicle. This stops thieves from replacing the ECU or adding new locks to bypass the security system.

Like other immobilisers, unlike other immobilisers, the ghost immobiliser and tracker doesn't use LED indications or key-fobs. Instead, it uses your vehicle's existing buttons to allow you to enter a unique disarm sequence that only you know.

Stop & Start

If you've been in a BMW or used its stop-start feature you might have noticed that the engine continues to run for about 30 seconds after you have released the brake pedal. The BMW engine management system continues to monitor the vehicle for a signal coming from the ignition key. If it detects this, the vehicle will continue to operate. The Autowatch 2 Ghost is a device that prevents this by stopping the vehicle when you press the button.

Our BMW ghost immobiliser is an innovative next-generation device that doesn't require cutting OEM wires or adding aftermarket alarm and key fobs. It is connected to your BMW's CAN network and programmed with an encrypted, secure PIN code that is accessible via buttons that are installed in your car. This lets you enter the key sequences which aren't accessible in normal menus for media. For instance the volume up/down button, or source, cruise control, air conditioning, etc. The PIN can range between 4 and 20 numbers which makes it extremely difficult for thieves to guess or break.

In addition to this we can also add a service or valet mode to the system, this is activated when your car is in for servicing so that the Ghost is not visible to the garage. You can do this by pressing the service button 5 times on your infotainment device (the system will flash with confirmation) and the ghost 2 immobiliser problems (Gokseong Multiiq`s recent blog post) will automatically rearm when you return.

Service Mode / Valet Mode

The Ghost is the most popular immobiliser on the market. It protects your vehicle from being taken by hacking or key cloning. It works by using the vehicles factory buttons to create an unique sequence of pushes which only you know, much as the pin code security of your mobile phone. It's incredibly discreet and quiet in deterring even the most determined thieves from ever trying!

If you're parked at your home or in a meeting and greet when you are at a meet and greet, the Ghost can be set to service mode. This lets you start the vehicle using your keys but prevents the engine from starting again until the correct code has been entered. This is perfect for customers who have to hand over their cars to valet services or trusted family members or friends. This lets you bring your vehicle to the garage for maintenance or repairs, or other maintenance. without having to worry that it will be modified by mechanics while you wait.

When the service/valet mode is enabled when the service/valet mode is enabled, your BMW will not be able to drive after it has been turned on. This stops anyone else from testing driving it while you're away. After you return, the vehicle will return to normal operation and will not be damaged or stolen.

We can fit the Ghost to any BMW all you require is the correct keys as the device does not use the original remotes, and can be used in conjunction with them. If you don't want to use a smartphone, or are not at ease with it, we can supply an optional Bluetooth tag that can be used to turn off the Ghost. This is an extra cost and requires a new Bluetooth pairing.

Anti-Hijack

With hi-tech thieves becoming more and more sophisticated the technology in security systems has to change, that's why Ghost has created this subtle and non-obtrusive immobiliser. It is designed to stop thieves from acquiring a new key or replacing the ECU to start your car and drive it away. Ghost is connected to your CAN network, and uses buttons on your vehicle to create an unique push-sequence which must be entered before the engine can be started.

When the anti-hijacking feature is activated the attempt to restart the engine will be stopped. Once the system detects that the vehicle is no longer moving, it will honk the horn and flash the indicators, in case it fails to find the correct code it will also stop the engine (where it is). By entering your push sequence or entering service mode, you can disable the Anti-Hijack function. This allows your vehicle to start temporarily without the need to enter a PIN.

If you have an GPS device connected to your BMW it is possible to use it to cancel the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system in your car whilst the vehicle is parked unsupervised. You can also use your smart-phone to control the anti theft feature and other functions.

Remote Control

We can connect the Ghost device with your mobile app to enable remote control of keyless start and go capabilities. This is useful if a valet or mechanic has to start your car but you are else. The system will allow you to turn the vehicle on and off, then select drive and exit service mode without needing your key fobs. You can also see your vehicle in real-time on a map on your smartphone, ideal for tracking your car when on the move.

The Ghost can be placed under the dashboard or within the center console. It is completely hidden and tamperproof and does not require any additional wiring. The device is connected to the vehicle's CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personalised PIN code is programmed into it. The pin code must be selected before the engine starts. This prevents thieves from bypassing the system using a cloned or replaced ECU.

If your vehicle is stolen the Ghost will go into service mode and disable all functions until you have the PIN code or the mobile application to disable it. This feature was designed to protect your vehicle from high-tech thieves who are now utilising relay boxes to steal your car. It also stops thieves from using their mobile phone to turn on your sat nav system or MP3 player to locate your vehicle!

Ghost can also stop the 'Relay Style Frequency Amplifier'. This is the most frequent method of stealing a car with a keyfob which has been duplicated or stolen through hacking. Ghost allows you to stop this by installing a security device to prevent theft in your vehicle that is called Secure-A Key. The device is inserted into your vehicle's key-fob and disconnects the battery after a few minutes of inactivity, this can be done on most modern PKE key-fobs.
