If you're willing to pay a bit more than the Bowers & Wilkins PX8 S2 will impress you with their quality of construction and sound. Few headphones offer elegance and subtlety like these. They feature die-cast aluminum arms, diamond-cut details, and a gorgeous design.

The noise-canceling capabilities of these headphones are a little less effective than the Bose QC35 and QC45. However, our Lab Assistant found that they were very comfortable to wear over long periods of time. The Monoprice BT-600ANC is a compact, low-cost pair of over-ear headphones that provide an impressive degree of noise reduction and audio quality for the price. The headphones are not comfortable to wear for long periods of time, however they do an excellent job of separating you from the surrounding noise.

If you're looking to purchase a top pair of noise-canceling headphones at an even more affordable price look into the Sony WH-XB910N. The "XB" in their name is for bass, and although they deliver on that promise, we still prefer Bose's ANC performance and overall design of the WH-1000XM5 headphones.

4. Battery Life

If you're going to drop some hundred dollars on a pair of noise-cancelling headphones, you want to ensure they'll last. The best over-ear noise cancelling headphones come with a battery life that will get you through an extended flight or week of commutes. We always test wireless headphones to see how long they last on battery.

During our tests we discovered that the top ANC headsets have batteries that last at least 30 hours. This is enough for a long-distance flight or a week's worth of work and commutes. In fact, a lot of models will go above the threshold, with some even hitting 60 hours of active noise cancellation.

You should be aware that while some headphones can last longer, the quality of the audio will decrease as the battery drains. This is evident when the sound gets muffled and the bass becomes less pronounced. The majority of people won't notice the difference, especially when listening to podcasts or other quiet music.

Another pair of great headphones to consider is the Monoprice BT-600ANC over-ears that are budget-friendly and offer great performance. They're lightweight and comfortable, with a well-designed and comfortable headband that's easy to wear. They feature touch controls and AAC and aptX support to provide high-quality audio on iOS and Android devices. They're not as good as the Bose QuietComfort 45 but they're still a great option for those on a tight budget.

Noise-canceling headsets are an excellent purchase for frequent travelers, office workers and anyone else who needs an unobstructed environment to listen to their podcast or audiobook. While they can be more expensive than normal headphones, they're worth it for those who are constantly in motion.
