It is tuned with a slight increase in bass, but it is not harsh or overpowering. They have a large and wide soundstage, with good instrument separation, which lets you hear subtleties in your music. The earcups feature touch controls that are simple and responsive. Swipe forward to play the next track, reverse to hear the previous one and then up and down to control the volume. They come with a sturdy carrying case made from premium fabric and a USB-C cable to charge. The headphones are compatible with most Android and iOS smartphones, as well as with computers running Windows and macOS. The WH-1000XM5's life expectancy is awe-inspiring. In our test we were able to achieve 31 hours and 53 minutes with the ANC switched on which is much better than Sony's advertised battery time of 30 hours.

The WH-1000XM5's mic performance on calls is superb and there's no distorted or static-y audio in the background. Noise cancelling is also excellent and these headphones are ideal for public transportation or in the office.

Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

The Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2 is a significant upgrade from its predecessor, offering premium performance and features. This includes 24-bit wireless streaming and optimized active noise cancellation, as well as clear voice quality on any compatible tablet or mobile phone. The 40mm drivers, which are designed specifically and angled in each earcup, provide a more deep and focused listening experience. Six strategically placed microphones provide exceptional call clarity, even in noisy environments. A built-in microphone and remote allows you to control music and calls from any device that is compatible.

As with the PX7's original design, these headphones are a sleekly refined look with accent rings around each earcup as well as a silver sheen on the headband. The earcups are cushioned by memory foam and fit snugly on the cranium, but they never feel tight. The new design and shape took a long time to perfect, delivering an easy clamping force that doesn't push too hard on my own cranium that is rotund.

They're 2 ounces lighter (or 307g) and a bit thinner than the Sony WH1000XM5. They're light enough for carrying in your backpack or bag without much discomfort, and will stay comfortably in place during long listening sessions. The headband can be folded by using a sturdy hinge on the back.

The headphones are powered by Bluetooth 5.2, with aptX Adaptive. This is great for high-resolution audio as well for a tight video sync. You can also play them wired too, using the included 3.5mm cable that connects to an USB-C port located on the right earcup. The status indicator on the headphone is a nice addition. It flashes green to indicate rapid charging and solid blue to signal Bluetooth pairing.

The B&W app offers the same controls as the hardware onboard buttons - bass and treble adjustment as well as action button assignment, best headphones wear detection, cycle through ANC modes and more. The app also displays an album cover and track's title when you play music from your iPhone. The most popular extras like music presets and soundscapes mode are missing, however.

Sennheiser HD 800 S

The design is simple and they don't look fancy however the quality of the headphones and their build are top-quality. They come with a carry case, an extra audio cable and an 1/4" to 1-/8" adapter.

The HD 800 S has a neutral sound that reproduces instruments and vocals with naturality, although they are a bit less bass-y. The open-back design creates an expansive out-of-head soundstage. The treble performance is outstanding, with only minor peaks and dips. The Treble region also is linear, so you will not have issues with piercingsibilants, or the upper bite of the drum snare.

Despite not having a loud bass, they can still provide dynamism and impact when needed. These headphones are still great for those who like rock music that has punchy bass however they might not sound as great as other models on this list.

These Sennheiser headphones have a great mid-range. They are straight and have a slight incline in the upper mids that won't be noticed by the majority of listeners. They also have the ability to reproduce fine time gradations in vocals which is a huge benefit.

The HD 800 S is a pair of premium headphones that are perfect for audiophiles and professionals. They are a top choice because of their outstanding audio quality and comfortable fit. The headphones are expensive however they will last for many years and perform in any setting.

Anker Soundcore Life q20

The Anker Soundcore Life Q20 are a good pair of headphones that can be a great choice for anyone looking to kill some time or simply needs a cheap set of noise cancelling headphones. They come with a basic bag which will provide protection when you throw them into your bag, and their battery can last several long haul flights. The ANC is a great way to block out noisy passengers and engine rumbles, but their audio quality is a bit warmer and bass-heavy.

The Life Q20's controls can be easy to use and are well-marked. On the left ear cup you'll find buttons to power up and pair the headphones and for turning off or on active noise cancellation. On the right earcup, you'll find media playback controls. This includes a multi-function key that activates your phone's voice assistant and also turns on Anker BassUp (more about it later). The built-in mic can be used to make hands-free phone calls.

Anker's Soundcore Q20 headphone provides a full immersive listening experience thanks to its custom 40mm dynamic driver that offers certified Hi-Res audio. The headphones feature the treble range to go up to 40 kHz. Their hybrid active noise cancellation is specifically designed to block out a variety of mid- and low-frequency sound.

Anker Soundcore Q20 does not support aptX. This is disappointing. This means you won't be capable of taking advantage of the superior codec's lower latency when you're playing on your computer.

The Life Q20's headband as well as memory foam ear cups are soft enough to wear for extended periods of time without discomfort. The ear cups can also be rotated to accommodate your individual head shape. The included 3.5mm audio cable lets you to listen to music while charging the battery.
