After a string of social media posts hints at it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally revealed its NFT (non fungible token) Project. It's called Space Key and created in collaboration with an unidentified artist and inspired by a piece advanced carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of a carbon composite material that Lamborghini as part of a research project in the year 2019, sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was then transformed into a unique art work when it returned to Earth. The physical component includes an NFT serial code that links to the digital artwork via QR code located on the back.

NFTs, for those not familiar, are unique identifiers that are stored on an open ledger on the blockchain and connected to digital assets, such as a photo video, song, or other recording. This allows owners to guarantee authenticity and the scarcity of tokens via the internet.

The NFT was created in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned off within a few weeks. The core of the NFT is a piece made of carbon fiber composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station (ISS) in the year 2019 as part of an experiment. The carbon fiber was 3D printed to form the base of each Space Key, which is linked with an exclusive, digital artwork through an QR code on its backside. Only five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique IDs that can be logged in distributed ledgers, such as the Blockchain, and linked to a digital asset such as images. It's a hot topic with people with more money than common sense. It was just an issue of time before automakers decided to take advantage of.

The digital artwork

It's dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT by an unidentified artist. The collectors' item was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to five units. It will be auctioned shortly.

Each Space Key contains a block made of advanced carbon-fire composite material. It was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a 2019 research project. After returning to Earth, it was made into a QR code that links it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that occurs only seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Over 600 million pixels make each of the five images, which were captured by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner utilized an inflatable camera that had lenses to capture the individual images, which were then combined into the final photo. The result is a photo that is completely out of the world. It captures both the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic picture of a car rising away from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and location of the auction haven't yet been set yet.

The auction

Each one will be sold in a separate auction and the winner will be awarded a digital image designed by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five distinct moments the Space Key passed during its flight in space.
