Bentley's custom coachbuilding division, Mulliner, has designed a unique key case to celebrate the brand's centenary. Made of Dark Stained Walnut and Piano Black veneer, it comes with a flying 'B' paperweight, a set keys as well as a brochure with never-before-seen 1930 8 Litre images.

Aesthetics

As a design-oriented company Bentley takes its aesthetics seriously. Similarly, the electrically-operated glass sunroof and champagne cooler that incorporated hand-blown and hand-cut lead crystal bottles marked a new benchmark in luxury and innovation.

It is this unique design, quality and attention to detail that has established Bentley as the world's most sought-after car brand. The company continues to push the limits by utilizing the most advanced technology and manufacturing techniques, such as the introduction of a digital instrument cluster as well as an electric tilt-opening rear glass sunroof and a crafted docking station for Apple iPads, and electrochromic 'smart' glass that can be switched from transparent to opaque by a button.

Design

The Mulsanne was revamped and redesigned by Bentley Mulliner to become the ultimate Grand Touring car. The rear seats were designed to provide passengers with unmatched comfort and privacy. They were inspired by the luxurious private aircraft. A customized heating, ventilation and air conditioning system was designed to provide each passenger with the perfect climate control setting.

The Mulsanne comes with a twin turbocharged 6.75 litre W12 engine that produces 560bhp and 479lb-ft of torque. This colossal power is complemented by a new suspension design that offers Bentley's trademark hushed ride.

Bentley has introduced a special specification for cars manufactured after the year 2019 to commemorate its centennial. This is known as the Centenary Specification. This includes cross-stitching and contrast stitching in Centenary Gold thread throughout the cabin. The Bentley Wings on the headrests and seats are embossed in Centenary Gold, adding to the sense of celebration. The Centenary Specification also includes a personalized Bentley keycase, adding to the Bentley experience.

Function

The Bentley Mulsanne Key has two buttons one of which opens the trunk, and the other that is used to start the vehicle. It also has a switch to activate the parking break. There is a knob to fold and unfold the mirrors while parked in tight areas. This feature makes it easier to get in and out of your car.

Each key takes about two days to create. It is cut by hand to shape, sewn sealed and polished to create an extremely high-end finish. It is sturdy and compact, and will fit the Bentley key perfectly. Its style is similar to the Volkswagen Phaeton large car's key however it feels heavier and has a luxurious feel.

It also has Secure-A-Key that helps to prevent keyless entry theft. This device is inserted into the remote-control fob, and then shuts it off in the event that the key isn't used for more than a few minutes. It blocks thieves from transmitting the key's frequency to other devices which can unlock and start the vehicle.

Bentley's distinctive design is a reflection of the values of the company which include exquisite craftsmanship and engineering expertise as well as the latest technologies. Personalisation

Bentley's Mulliner division lets customers design their own vehicle. Guests sit at a series of images called "mood stations" and pick a set of images ranging from scenic vistas to sporting events - that inspire them to design their own. Each time a selection is made, a pattern emerges which shows the model and color preferences of the custom Bentley.

The guests are given an individual key case created by hand and containing the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. Bentley says it takes roughly 500 man hours to design and assemble the average Mulsanne. The key to this time-consuming effort is a deliberate refusal to take advantage of modern technology. Instead of using a machine to place the perfectly matched leather seats workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. Drivers have to park their cars manually, instead of using the built-in sensors to guide them into perpendicular and parallel spaces.

The event also saw Bentley showcased its Mulliner personalization options with a special example - the Mulsanne W.O. The Mulsanne W.O. Edition pays homage to the man who founded the company, William Osler Bentley. The limited edition cars come with the key, which displays the 1930 8 Litre crankshaft.
