To configure this bot, you need to plug it into its base and connect it to your home Wi-Fi network. Once you've done that then the Neato app walks you through an initial configuration (linking to Wi-Fi, giving the D4, etc.). Once the D4 is fully charged it's time to begin a cleaning process.

Once the D4 is running, the app lets you set up a schedule automatically or manually at any point. You can also control it with your voice using Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you have an Apple Watch, you can even initiate cleaning by simply tapping the wrist.

In our tests in the lab, this model cleaned well on carpeted and hard flooring It picked up 91.3 percent of the debris in serpentine paths. However it's not as efficient in corner and edge cleaning as the more expensive models. Its side sensors keep the D4 approximately 1.5 inches away from walls. And it lacks the side-sweeping brushes that are found on all, if not the cheapest robotic cleaners. The raised turret means it isn't able to be used under furniture with low clearance. It can also support virtual No-Go Lines. So you can draw red lines on your floor plan and instruct the D4 to stay away from this area. The battery time of 75 minutes is also average. This is an acceptable price for the convenience of this model.

The Roomba 980 is also able to automatically return to its base station after it's done with its cleaning task, ensuring it's always ready for its next adventure. This feature is only available to the 980, making the robot more practical.

3. iRobot Roomba 985

iRobot Roomba 985 was designed by iRobot to help you make your floors cleaner and more beautiful, thanks to its powerful cleaning system, smart navigation, and intelligent integration with other iRobot products. Its exclusive dirt detection system warns you of areas that require more attention. Smart sensors keep it away from dangers and stairs. It also automatically recharges and continues to clean until the job is done. Its intelligent mapping and vSLAM technology lets it navigate through the entire level of your home, while keeping the track of the areas it's been to and what rooms are left to clean.

Its low profile allows it to go under carpets, furniture, and other objects where dust and pet hair are usually hidden. It also removes dirt from edges and corners, unlike other robot vacuums. This enables it to avoid wires and pet feces more effectively than the Roborock S6 MaxV, Ecovacs N8 Pro, and other robotic vacuums that we've tested.

It is also the most powerful vacuum. It is able to clean up the dirt that has deeper particles or larger pet hairs, unlike other mid-range models like the Roomba 960. This is due to the cleaner's larger counter-rotating brushes and a stronger motor that has more suction power.

The Roomba 995 is iRobot’s least expensive vacuum, and comes with recharge and resume. However, it does not have the auto-empty feature that the I6+ or I7 offer. It also lacks iAdapt 2.0 navigation, as well as the camera that the I7 utilizes to detect objects and avoid obstacles. It's not able to access features like in-app containment, or save maps.

This robot makes use of iAdapt 2.0 navigation to keep track of its position, which allows it to navigate the room efficiently and avoid getting stuck. It can see the floor as well as its obstacles and objects by using SLAM and a top-mounted camera. It can even fit under tables and couches because of its low-profile.
