Bentley Mulsanne Key Celebrates Its Centenary

Mulliner Bentley's bespoke coachbuilding unit has designed a unique keycase to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the company. It is constructed of Dark stained Walnut with Piano Black Veneer and includes the flying "B" paperweight keys, as well as a booklet featuring never-before-seen 1930s 8 Litre images.

Aesthetics

Bentley's Mulliner division allows customers to design their car. Customers sit at a set of images, referred to "mood stations" and select a series of photos ranging from scenic views to sporting events that inspire them to design their own. Every time a choice is made, the pattern that emerges shows the model colors, style and color preferences for the bespoke Bentley.

The guests are given keys made by hand and containing the R.F.I.D. enabled key cards. The keys are also equipped with Bentley Muliner Personalised Welcome Lamps that light up the door's opening pathway with the owner's name or logo when they are approaching the vehicle.

Bentley estimates that it takes 500 man-hours on average to construct and put together a Mulsanne. The reluctance to embrace modern technology is the key to this time-consuming effort. Instead of employing a machine for spacers to the perfectly-matched leather seats, workers at the Crewe factory do it by hand. And rather than letting the car's built in sensors guide it into perpendicular and parallel parking spots drivers must do it manually.
