The carbon fiber was crafted into a unique artwork after it returned to Earth. The physical piece is equipped with an NFT serial code that connects to the digital image via QR code on the rear.

For those who don't know, NFTs are unique identifiers recorded on a distributed blockchain ledger, and linked to an digital asset such as a photograph, video or any other recording. This allows owners to ensure authenticity and the scarcity of their tokens on the internet.

The digital artwork

After several weeks of posts on social media hints at it, a prestigious car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. Each Space Key contains a block composed of carbon-fired composite material, which was shipped to the International Space Station as part of a research project for 2019. After returning to Earth the block was engraved using a QR codes that connect to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a separate moment that occurs a few seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. More than 600 million pixels make up each of the five images which were captured by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera that captured each of the individual shots which were then merged into the final image. The result is an out of this world photograph that captures both the beauty of Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic image of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off soon, but there is no exact date or time yet.
