Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

After a series of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally revealed its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. It's called Space Key and developed in collaboration with an undisclosed artist and built on a piece of advanced carbon fiber composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The Space Key is made from carbon fiber composite materials which Lamborghini shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of research project. The carbon fiber was transformed into an original artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical piece is imprinted with an NFT serial number that ties to the corresponding digital artwork with QR codes on the back.

For those who don't know, NFTs are unique identification numbers that are stored on a distributed blockchain ledger and tied to a digital asset such as a video, image or any other recording. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity and the trackability of their tokens through the internet.

In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will reveal details about the exciting project. This includes the names of the artists that are not known and a timeline for auction.

The physical component of the Space Key

The NFT was developed in collaboration with an unknown artist and will be auctioned off in a few short weeks. The core of the NFT is a piece that's made of the latest carbon fiber composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station (ISS) in the year 2019 as part of an experiment. Carbon fiber was 3D-printed for the base of every Space Key. Each Space Key is connected to a unique, digital artwork by way of a QR code. Five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that can be recorded in distributed ledgers, such as the Blockchain and linked to digital assets like pictures. It's a hot topic with people who have more money than they have common sense. It was just an issue of time before automakers decided to take advantage of.

The digital artwork

After months of social media posts that hinted at it, luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The project is dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT by an unidentified artist. Created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the "collector's work" is limited to just five units and will be auctioned off in the near future.

Each Space Key contains a block composed of a carbon-fire composite material. It was sent to the International Space Station as part of a research project for 2019. After returning to Earth the Space Key was stamped with an QR code that connects it to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a separate moment that occurs seconds apart as the lamborghini digital key Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Over 600 million pixels make each of the five images which were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used an inflatable camera equipped with an lens to take individual images, which were then added to the final picture. The result is an image that is completely out of the world. It captures both the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic picture of a car rising from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and location of the auction hasn't been revealed yet.

The auction

With the slogan "to the moon', luxury automobile maker Lamborghini has entered the world of non-fungible tokens (NFT) by launching a hypnotic project developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm). The auctions, which will take place between February 1 through February 4, last for 75 hours and 50 minutes, the same time it took for Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. The five NFTs are available for bidding by signing up online. Each one will be auctioned by itself and the winner will be awarded an artwork digitally created by the renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five distinct moments the Space Key passed during its journey through space.
