Weather Stripping

Wooden window sashes can add an elegant appearance to your home. They are also durable and last for a long time when they are maintained properly. They may, however, become damaged or degraded with time, due to exposure and normal wear and tear. The first step in sash window repairs is addressing weather stripping, which is found on both the sash as well as the frame. It can cause drafts if damaged or is loose. This will help protect the putty and give your sash a modern appearance.

Sash Hardware

The hardware that supports window sashes is susceptible to wear and tear from age and use and the result could be a window or door that won't open or close easily. It's a good idea to know that replacing and fixing this hardware is usually straightforward and cost-effective. If a sash is difficult to operate try spraying grease into the jamb channel and then open it to see if it solves the issue. If not, the problem is likely to be with the balance of the sash and you'll need to take out the sash to gain access to the hardware.

It is crucial to have the tools you need before you begin. Mark the hinge channel's location on the frame (Photo 1) using a pencil. Sash Weights

It is recommended to keep the original weights in place unless you have purchased a kit to replace the counterbalance. It's cheap to purchase these from salvage shops for architectural purposes and they'll be easy to install once you've got the sash opened. Depending on the size and shape of your window you may require one or two sashweights in order to keep it open.
