Asbestos Legal Matters

The final TSCA risk assessment of chrysotile revealed unacceptable health risks for humans in all current uses of chrysotile. The rule of April 2019 prohibits asbestos products that are currently in use from returning to the market.

Legislation

Asbestos laws are controlled at the state and federal levels in the United States. While most industrialized nations have banned asbestos, the US still uses it in a variety of different products. These strands are processed and mixed with cement or a binding agent to create asbestos-containing material (ACM).
