The iRobot Roomba 980 is the latest in the series of top-of-the-line robot Automatic Vacuum Cleaner cleaners that are a staple of any modern household. This model is equipped with a HEPA-filter that will assist those who suffer from allergies. In addition, it also has a powerful battery which can clean for up to two hours and it will return to its dock once its bin is full.

It also has a feature called smart mapping that uses multiple sensors to help it identify the areas in your home that need attention and then create a clean route around them. We've seen this technology in action and it does a great job of moving around toys abandoned on the floor or furniture legs that stick out from under things. It also has a camera sensor that will snap the Roomba back to the real world when it starts drifting from its intended location.

iRobot has also introduced a new set of rollers beneath the Roomba's bottom that don't have bristles and, therefore, tend to resist tangles more than previous models. They're also taller than previous rollers, and will fit better under beds and couches that are low and are designed to let this model move more easily across a variety of flooring types.

What sets the Roomba 980 apart from other models with a higher-end price tag Its main feature is the incorporation of the latest dirt detection feature that utilizes cameras to detect particles of dirt embedded. This is a significant improvement over the previous model which relied on the use of a sensor-driven pseudorandom cover to bounce around the room, and then clean the entire area three times at various angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. It scored very well on carpets with a low pile, and on mid-pile. It was successful in picking up pet hair but had a difficult time with the long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots we've reviewed despite the slight limitations. It's also not as expensive as other top-of the-line models. It has a lot of features we would expect from a top model, but it doesn't have all the fancy apps or home integration you'd find in other top contenders.

The iRobot Roomba can be set up in a matter of minutes and is available for use right away. After taking off the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from undercarriage, all that you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or an outlet on the wall, press its big "Clean" button, and let it go to work. It will return to its dock when it runs out of battery or becomes full of sand. There are also indicators at the top of the bin that let you know when the bin is empty, or automatic Vacuum Cleaner when it requires recharging, or when it loses Wi-Fi.
