BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses the CAN data bus to communicate with your vehicle. This stops thieves from replacing the ECU or putting in new locks to bypass the security system.

Like other immobilisers, The Ghost is different from other immobilisers. Ghost doesn't use LED indications or key-fobs. It relies on the buttons of your vehicle to allow you to enter a unique sequence of disarming that only you know.

Stop & Start

If you've ever driven a brand new BMW or utilized the stop start feature, then you might have noticed that after stopping the engine will continue to be running for approximately 30 seconds after you release the brake pedal. The BMW engine management system continues to check the vehicle for a signal coming from the ignition key. Once it finds this, the vehicle will continue to run. Our BMW ghost immobiliser, which is a next-generation device, doesn't require you to cut OEM wires or to add keys or alarms that are made by an aftermarket company. It is connected to the BMW CAN data network, and is programmed with a unique PIN code that is accessible via buttons in your car. This lets you enter the key sequences which aren't accessible in normal menus for media. It utilizes the factory buttons on your vehicle to generate an unique push sequence that only you can identify. This is similar to pin code security for your mobile phone. It's incredibly secure, discreet and can deter even the most determined thieves!

It's designed to stop thieves from putting in keys or replacing the ECU to start your car and drive it off. Ghost is connected to your CAN network and uses buttons on your vehicle to generate a unique push-sequence that must be entered before your engine can be started.

Once the anti-hijacking mode is activated the attempt to restart the engine will be blocked. Once the system detects that the vehicle has stopped moving it will honk the horn and flash the indicators. If it fails to find the correct code it will also stall the engine (where possible). By entering your push sequence, or entering service mode, you can disable the Anti-Hijack function. This allows your vehicle to start temporarily without having to enter PIN.

If you own a GPS device linked up to your BMW it could be used to disable the Anti-Hijack feature, allowing you to still use the navigation system inside your car whilst the vehicle is parked unattended. You can also use your smartphone to control the anti-theft feature as well as other functions.

The Ghost can be positioned in the dashboard area, or in the center console. It is completely concealed and secure, and doesn't require any additional wiring. The device is connected to the vehicles CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a personalised PIN code is embedded into it. This pin code has to be chosen prior to the engine's start. This prevents thieves from bypassing the system with a cloned or replaced ECU.

If the vehicle is stolen, the Ghost will enter service mode and disable all functions unless you have a PIN code or the mobile application to disable it. This feature was designed to safeguard your vehicle from high-tech thieves who employ relay boxes to take it. This will stop thieves from using mobile phones to turn on your sat-nav or mp3 players to track your vehicle!

Ghost can also stop 'Relay-style Frequency Amplification'. This is the most typical way a car is being taken away with a key-fob that has been copied or stolen via hacking. Ghost allows you to stop this by installing an anti-theft device within your vehicle called Secure-A-Key. The device is installed inside the key fob of your vehicle and then disconnects the battery after a few inactive minutes. This is possible using the most modern PKE keys.
