BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses the CAN data bus for communication with your vehicle. This stops thieves from replacing the ECU or adding new locks to bypass the security system.

The Ghost is unlike other immobilisers because it doesn't rely on key-fobs or LED indicators. It makes use of the buttons on your vehicle to let you enter a unique disarming sequence that only you know.

Stop & Start

If you've been in a BMW or utilized its stop-start feature, you might have noticed that the engine continues to run for 30 seconds after you have released the brake pedal. The BMW engine management system continues to watch the vehicle for a signal coming from the ignition key. If it detects this the vehicle will continue to run. This can be achieved by pressing the service button on your infotainment system five times (the system will flash to confirm this) and when you return the Ghost will automatically re-arm.

Service / Valet Mode

The Ghost is the leading immobiliser on the market. It stops your vehicle from being stolen by hacking or key cloning. It works by utilising the factory buttons on your vehicle to create a unique sequence of presses that only you can identify, much like pin code security on your mobile phone. It's subtle, extremely effective and deterrence for even the most determined thieves!

If you're parked at your home or in a meeting and greet situation when you are at a meet and greet, the Ghost can be set to service mode. This lets you start the vehicle using your keys, but it stops the engine from starting again until the correct code is entered. This is perfect for customers who have to transfer their vehicles to valet service companies, or trusted family members and friends. This lets you bring your vehicle to the garage for maintenance and maintenance, etc. without worrying that it will be modified by a mechanic while you wait.

Once the valet or service mode is activated it will block your BMW from being driven when it is first started. This stops anyone from test driving it whilst you are away. Once you return it will revert back to normal, preventing your vehicle from being tampered with or stolen once again.

The Ghost can be fitted to any BMW. All you need are the correct keys because the device does not use the original remotes, but can be used in conjunction with them. If you don't wish to use a smartphone, or don't feel comfortable using it, we can provide an optional Bluetooth tag that can be used to turn off the Ghost. This is an additional expense and requires a different Bluetooth pairing.

Anti-Hijack

With the advent of high-tech thieves becoming increasingly and more sophisticated, the security technology is continuing to evolve, this is why Ghost has created this discrete and non-obtrusive immobiliser. It is designed to prevent thieves from acquiring a new key or replacing the ECU in order to start your car and then drive it away. Ghost connects to your CAN network, and uses buttons on your vehicle to create an individual push-sequence that has to be entered before your engine can start.

If the anti-hijacking mode has been activated, any attempt to restart the engine will be thwarted. The system will sharpen the horn, flash the indicators and stall the vehicle in the event that the code cannot be found. By entering your push sequence or entering service mode, you can cancel the Anti-Hijack function. This allows your vehicle to be temporarily started without entering a PIN.

If you have a GPS device that is connected to your BMW, you can make use of it to disable the Anti-Hijack function so that you can continue to use your navigation system when the vehicle is parked. If you own a smart-phone, you can also connect it up to your Ghost app to control the anti-hijack function and other functions.

Remote Control

We can connect the Ghost device with your mobile app to enable remote control of keyless start and go functionality. This is useful if a valet or mechanic has to start your car but you need to go somewhere and not in the vicinity. The system allows you to turn the car on and off, then select drive and exit service mode without needing keys. You can also view your vehicle in real time on a map displayed on your smartphone, ideal to track your car while in motion.

The Ghost can be placed under the dashboard or within the center console. It is completely concealed and tamperproof and does not require extra wiring. The device is connected to the CAN Data Network of the vehicle (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a unique pin code is programmed into it. The pin code must be chosen before the engine starts. This prevents thieves from using a copied key or replacing the ECU in order to disable this system.

If your vehicle is taken away, the Ghost will go into service mode and shut down all functions unless you have the PIN code or the mobile application to disarm it. This feature was created to safeguard your vehicle from thieves with high-tech equipment who use relay boxes to take it. This will prevent thieves from using their mobile phones to activate your sat-nav or mp3 players to track your vehicle!

Ghost can also prevent the 'Relay-style Frequency amplification'. This is the most frequent way a car is being taken away with a key-fob that has been copied or stolen through hacking. Ghost allows you to stop this by installing an anti-theft device in your vehicle, called Secure-A-Key. The device is inserted into your vehicle's key-fob and will disconnect the battery after a short period of inactivity, this can be done on the majority of modern PKE key-fobs.
