BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses the CAN data bus for communication with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from adding an additional key or replacing the ECU to get around your security system because it requires a valid PIN code to start the engine.

The Ghost is different from other immobilisers in that it does not use key-fobs or LED indicators. It uses the buttons on your vehicle to allow you to to enter a unique sequence of disarming that you only know.

Stop & Start

If you have previously driven a brand new BMW or used the stop-start feature, you may have noticed that when you stop the engine the engine will continue to be running for approximately 30 seconds after releasing the brake pedal. The BMW engine management system continues to monitor the vehicle for signals emanating from the ignition key. If it detects this, the vehicle will continue to run. Our BMW ghost immobiliser is a unique next-generation device that doesn't require cutting OEM wires or installing an aftermarket alarms and key fobs. It is connected to the BMW's CAN data network and is programmed with an encrypted, secure PIN code that is accessible through buttons in your car. This allows you to enter a specific key push sequence that is not in the normal media menus, such as volume up/down, source, cruise control or turning on air conditioning that prevents your car from starting unless this is entered. The PIN can be between 4 and 20 characters, making it very difficult for thieves to figure out.

We can also include a service/valet mode. This mode is activated when your vehicle is being serviced to ensure that the Ghost is away from the garage. This can be achieved by pressing the service button on your infotainment device 5 times (the system will flash to confirm this) and when you return the Ghost will automatically arm again.

Service Mode / Valet Mode

This is ideal for those who need to give their vehicles to valet services or trusted family members or friends. It also allows you to take the car to the garage for repairs, maintenance etc without having to worry about it getting taken away or altered by a mechanic whilst you wait.

If the service/valet mode has been enabled and enabled, your BMW is unable to drive after it has been turned on. This will stop anyone else from driving it while you are away. After you return, the vehicle will return to normal operation and prevent it from being tampered or stolen again.

Anti-Hijack

With the advent of high-tech thieves becoming increasingly and more sophisticated the security technology has to improve, which is why Ghost has created this discrete and discreet immobiliser. It is designed to stop thieves from using keys or replacing the ECU to start your vehicle and drive off. Ghost links up to your CAN data network, and utilizes the buttons on your vehicle (steering wheel and centre console as well as door panels) to create a unique push sequence which needs to be entered before the engine can start.

When the anti-hijacking feature is activated the attempt to restart the engine will be blocked. The system will sharpen the horn, flash the indicators and stop the vehicle if the code is not found. The Anti-Hijack feature can be removed by entering your push sequence, or by entering service mode that allows your car to temporarily begin and drive, without having to enter your PIN.

If you have an GPS device that is connected to your BMW it is possible to make use of it to disable the Anti-Hijack function so that you can continue to navigate using your navigation system even when the vehicle is parked. The Ghost can be positioned under the dashboard or inside the centre console, it is completely secure and untouchable and doesn't require any extra wiring. The device is connected to the vehicles CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a unique PIN code is embedded into it. The pin code must be entered prior to the engine's start. This prevents thieves from using a copied key or replacing the ECU to disable this system.

If the vehicle is taken away, the Ghost will go into service mode and disable all functions unless you have a PIN code or the mobile application to disarm it. This feature was designed to safeguard your vehicle from thieves with high-tech equipment who use relay boxes to steal it. This will stop thieves from using their mobile phones to turn on your sat-navs or mp3 players to locate your vehicle!

Ghost also blocks 'Relay-style Frequency Amplification'. This is the most popular method of stealing a car with a keyfob that's been duplicated or stolen through hacking. Ghost can help you prevent this from happening by installing a device called Secure-A Key in your vehicle. The device is installed in the key fob of your car and disconnects its battery after a few inactive minutes. This is possible using the most modern PKE keys.
