BMW Ghost Immobiliser

The Ghost uses CAN data bus for communication with your vehicle. This prevents thieves from adding an additional key or replacing the ECU to bypass your security system since it requires a correct PIN code to start the engine.

The Ghost is different from other immobilisers as it does not use key fobs or LED indicators. It makes use of the buttons on your vehicle to allow you to access to a unique disarming sequence that you can only remember.

Stop & Start

If you've been in a BMW or used its stop-start feature, you might have noticed that the engine continues to run for 30 seconds after you have released the brake pedal. This is due to the BMW engine management system constantly monitoring your vehicle for an ignition key, and if this signal is detected, it will continue to run. The Autowatch 2 Ghost is a device that can stop this by stopping the vehicle whenever you hit a button.

Our BMW ghost immobiliser is a revolutionary next-generation device that does not require cutting OEM wires or adding aftermarket alarm and key fobs. It is connected to the BMW CAN data network, and is programmed with a unique PIN code which is accessed by buttons in your car. This lets you enter key sequences that aren't accessible through the standard menus for media. For instance the volume up/down button, or source cruise control, air conditioning etc. The PIN is between 4 and 20 characters, making it difficult for thieves to figure out.

We can also include a service/valet mode. This mode is activated when your vehicle is being maintained so that the Ghost is kept from view by the garage. This can be accomplished by pressing the service button on your infotainment system 5 times (the system will flash to confirm this) and when you return the Ghost will re-arm automatically.

Service Mode / Valet Mode

This allows you to start the car with your keys normally, but prevents the engine from running until the proper code is entered. This is ideal for those who need to turn their cars over to valet companies or other trusted friends & family members. This allows you to take your car to the garage for maintenance, or other maintenance. without worrying about it being tampered with by an expert mechanic while you are waiting.

When the service/valet mode is activated, your BMW will not be able to drive once it has been started. This stops anyone else from testing driving the vehicle while you are away. After you return, it will be back to normal, preventing your vehicle from being tampered with or stolen again.

Anti-Hijack

Ghost created this discrete, unobtrusive device to combat the growing sophistication of hi-tech thieves. It is designed to stop thieves from putting in an ignition key or replacing the ECU to start your car and drive it off. Ghost connects to your CAN network and uses buttons on your vehicle to create an individual push-sequence that has to be entered before your engine can start.

This will activate the anti-hijack feature and, once activated any attempt to start the engine will be immediately stopped. When the system determines that the vehicle is no longer moving, it will honk the horn and flash the indicators, in case it fails to find the correct code it will also stall the engine (where it is). The Anti-Hijack feature can be disabled by entering your push sequence or by entering service mode which allows your car to start and drive without having to enter your PIN.

If you own an GPS device linked up to your BMW it could be used to cancel the Anti-Hijack feature, so you can still use the navigation system inside your car even when the vehicle is parked unattended. If you own a smart-phone, you can also connect it to your Ghost app to control the anti-hijack feature and other functions.

Remote Control

We can connect your Ghost device to your mobile app for remote control of keyless start and go functionality. This is helpful if you need to be somewhere else and valet or mechanic needs to start your car. The system allows you to start the vehicle by selecting drive and then exit the service mode without the need to use your key fobs. You can also view your vehicle in real time on a map displayed on your smartphone, perfect for tracking your car whilst on the move.

The Ghost can be placed under the dashboard or within the centre console, it is completely secure and untouchable and does not require any extra wiring. The device is connected to the vehicles CAN Data Network (similar to an Ethernet cable) and a unique PIN code is programmed into it. This pin code must be entered prior to the vehicle's start. This stops thieves from gaining access to the system using a cloned or replaced ECU.

If the vehicle is stolen, the Ghost will enter a security mode that disables all functions until the PIN code is entered, or you use the mobile app to disarm it. This feature was created to safeguard your vehicle from thieves using high-tech devices who employ relay boxes to take it. It also stops thieves from being able to use their mobile phone to turn on your sat-nav or mp3 player to locate your vehicle!

Ghost also blocks 'Relay-style Frequency Amplification'. This is the most common method of stealing a car with a keyfob that's been copied, or stolen by hacking. Ghost can help you avoid this by installing an anti-theft device in your vehicle that is called Secure-A Key. The device is inserted into the key fob of your car and then disconnects the battery after a couple of inactive minutes. This can be accomplished with the majority of modern PKE keys.
