1. Neato Botvac D4

This Neato is an excellent choice if you want to benefit from the convenience of a robotic vacuum cleaner, but not sacrifice too much in terms of performance. The D4 provides excellent navigation and mapping features, smart home integration, and an easy-to-use application and all at a price point that won't cost you a fortune.

You can configure the bot by connecting it to its base and then connecting it to your home Wi Fi network. The Neato app will guide you through the initial setup (linking the D4 to Wi-Fi and the name of it the D4 etc.). When the D4 is fully charged it's possible to start cleaning.

Once you've got the D4 up and running, you can make use of the app to create an automated schedule or manually start a clean anytime you like. You can also use your voice to control it via Google Home or Amazon Alexa. If you own an Apple Watch you can start cleaning by tapping the wrist.

This model was a success in our lab tests of both hard and carpeted floors, collecting 91.3 percent of debris from serpentine paths. It's not as effective in cleaning corners and edges as more expensive models. The D4's side sensors keep it approximately 1.5 inches away from walls. Also, it doesn't have the side-sweeping brush that is found on all robotic cleaners. Furthermore, its raised turret makes it difficult to be placed under furniture with low clearance. The Roomba 980 can also automatically return to its base station after it's finished with a cleaning job, ensuring that it's always ready for its next adventure. This feature is only available on the 980 and it's a nice touch that makes the expensive machine more practical to own.

3. iRobot Roomba 985

iRobot Roomba 985 is a product designed to help you get your floors cleaner and more beautiful, with its powerful cleaning system, smart navigation, and smart integration with other iRobot products. Its unique dirt detection system warns you of areas that need extra attention, and also includes smart sensors that keep it away from stairs and other risky obstacles. It also recharges automatically and continue cleaning until the task has been completed. Its intelligent mapping and vSLAM technology let it navigate an entire level of your home, and keep track of where it's been and what rooms it's yet to clean.

4. iRobot Roomba 995

The latest model from iRobot has the best obstacle avoidance of any Roomba we've tested, due to its front-facing camera and laser sensor. This enables it to avoid wires and pet feces better than the Roborock S6 MaxV, Ecovacs N8 Pro, and other robotic vacuums we've reviewed.

It's also iRobot's most powerful vacuum, able of grabbing messes with deeper debris and larger pet hair, unlike other mid-range models such as the Roomba 960. This is due to the fact that the cleaner has wider brushes that rotate counter-clockwise and a motor with greater suction power.

The Roomba 995 is iRobot’s least expensive vacuum that comes with recharge and resume. However it isn't equipped with the auto-empty feature that the I6+ or I7 offer. It also doesn't have iAdapt 2.0 navigation, as well as the camera that the I7 employs to detect objects and avoid obstacles. It isn't able to access features such as in-app containment or save maps.

It works well on carpeted and bare floors, picking up food crumbs and dirt that has been tracked in. And it's excellent at navigating and avoiding obstacles. It also does an excellent job at cleaning embedded dirt.

This robot uses iAdapt 2.0 navigation to keep track of where it is, which allows it to navigate around efficiently and avoid getting stuck. It can see the floor as well as its obstacles and objects by using SLAM and a top-mounted camera. It also has an angled profile that lets it get under tables and couches. It's also able to return to its dock for recharging when needed.

The 960's navigational system, although lacking certain advanced features like map-saving and specific cleaning of rooms, is superior to that of most other robots. It also has a bigger dust bin than the 690.
