It's costly however, it's also among the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has evaluated. It's equipped with a powerful battery that can sweep an entire home in less than two hours, and it can switch between vacuuming and mopping by pressing one button. It will automatically empty the dust bin above its charging station, unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the bin after every run.

It also comes with a variety of other features, including intelligent obstacle avoidance which uses cameras and processor-powered smarts in order to detect obstacles. 2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8

Eufy is owned by Anker, has become an established brand in the world of budget robot vacuums. However, it didn't offer a model that could also mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive array of modern features and can compete well with more expensive models.

Laser navigation is the main selling point of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have built up an outline of your home utilizing infrared sensors and bumping into things, but the X8's laser mapping technology is far more precise. It takes less time to build a comprehensive map of your home and can store multiple maps. This is perfect for multi-floored homes.

The X8 is a decent vacuum cleaner for floors that are clean. It is able to effortlessly sling debris through the side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin. The Tyres of the X8, despite their circular shape, are very efficient in grabbing corners and edges. Our tests revealed that it was able to remove 90% of the fur on hard floors.

There's a mopping mode that uses the same water tank as the vacuuming. While this is great for loose spills, you can't limit the amount of water it uses and this will reduce its effectiveness on more severe stains. That said, it does an excellent job of removing pet hair, with a better percentage of hair removal than the roborock robot vacuum S7.

3. Miele RX2

Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances, Miele's RX2 robot vacuum is a great choice because of its cleaning power, beautiful design and excellent navigation. However, it does have some operational issues which prevent it from being considered as the best overall smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping technique which uses LIDAR to map a room, and a pair 3D scanning cameras to detect and eliminating obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room has been mapped, you can assign virtual no-go zones and preferred sections to the robot. You can also initiate a manual clean or manually change the cleaning mode, view a live feed from the cameras onboard and more from the main screen.

The RX2's sensors work well, registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. The suction and sweeping capabilities are exceptional, getting rid of surface litter from carpets of medium pile and also removing dust that has been deposited on floors. However, it's not exactly the most agile robot on the market. It's not the best climber, and it has problems with transition strips made of metal.

4. Shark ION

This round, budget robot is just like your typical robot but it's a step up in terms of performance and features. Its smart mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home, and uses them to navigate and avoid obstacles. It's even able to spot common obstacles such as power cords and furniture legs in real-time. The combination of sensors with a bump detector and an infrared sensor to keep the vacuum off steps makes it one our most flexible vacuums.

In our tests, it was able to could climb over the thick shag rugs and didn't get stuck on them (like the RoboVac 11s or Roomba 690). Its navigational skills were also impressive and its overall score on carpet and bare floors beat out the competition. It was able to pick up 98.5 percent of surface litter and embedded pet hair from our lab test samples.

The controls are simpler than the competitors. There's an uniform cleaning button on the top. You can launch it via the app or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also schedule daily or weekly cleanings, designate no-go zones and view its history of cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. We love the 980 because it uses its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors as well as visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It then uses the information to create an efficient and consistent cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient robot vacuum cleaner than the majority of high-end robots.

Other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes, which pick up dirt from carpet and hard floors, along with a spinning brush that sweeps debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. The sensors for floor tracking help it navigate across furniture and along edges, while Cliff Detect keeps the Roomba from falling down stairs. It will also return to the base station to allow for recharges between sessions. While the 980's battery life and bin size aren't as efficient as other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that will keep your floors spotless for hours on end.
