Refinishing the door

Additionally, you should use a natural-bristle brush to apply the spar urethane varnish to create an even, smooth coat.

After the varnish is dry, you can install any hardware you removed. Replacing Hinges

To begin, take out the screws that are currently attached to the hinges in the door jamb and hinge leaf. Utilize a hammer to make a mortise in the wooden structure where the hinges will be installed. The depth of your mortise should roughly match the thickness of hinge leaves. After constructing the mortise test the hinges to ensure they fit comfortably and securely. If the hinges don't fit, re-chisel until your hole is of the correct size.

Once you've got the hole ready for the new hinges mark the locations of their screw holes on the jamb and the door using a pencil. You can also employ a screw guide to keep the screws straight when they are driven into. Then, drill pilot holes in the form of small holes through the marks. Then, install the hinges you want to use and secure them with the help of a screwdriver or drill.

The screw holes on new hinges do not have to be exactly the same as the holes in the jamb of the door, but they must be close enough. The hinge plate will cover any holes that don't match precisely.

After you're done then put the door back into its place and attach it to the hinges by sliding it into the hinge pins.
