A good robot vacuum cleaner can make a huge difference in reducing allergens like dust and pet hair. But not all models are to be the same.

There are many options available depending on whether you are looking for an animal-friendly vacuum or a robot that can complement your other vacuum.

1. Eufy RoboVac G30 Edge

The G30 Edge is the newest model in Eufy's line of budget robot vacuum cleaners. It's a shiny black affair with blue and rose-gold accents that looks like an iPhone. It's easier to use than previous models and comes with features such as BoostIQ which automatically increases suction power to ensure better cleaning on all surfaces. It also employs intelligent navigation to avoid repeating the same areas repeatedly, which is a common problem when using bounce-navigation systems.

It does an excellent job of removing pet hair and crumbs from hard floors, but it falls in comparison to the best vacuum and mop for pet hair models when it comes to collecting dust from carpet. In our tests, it missed 74% of the powder on hard floors and 26% on carpet.

The G30 Edge is unique in its ability to map your home with an electronic map. This allows it to remember which spaces it has cleaned before and avoid returning to those areas, a major frustration with more basic robots that require the use of old-fashioned magnetic tape to delineate zones that aren't allowed.

The G30 Edge also has other features. It has an "Find My Robot" mode that plays loud music until it is located and a directional keyboard that lets you manually move the robot. It also comes with an auto return function that sends it back to its charging base if the battery is depleted which is a crucial safety feature.

2. Neato Botvac D-Shape

The Neato Botvac D-Shape is an extremely capable robot that comes with a plethora of features that are smart. It can clean bare floors efficiently and climb up high-pile carpets with ease. The app offers advanced features, such as boundary lines remote access to the robot when it is in operation, and many other options.

This model is the latest in a long series of robots from Neato and has a distinctive "D" shape when viewed from above. This design has several advantages, including improved corner-cleaning and a larger bin of dust than the majority of models. The D-shape also enables the robot to reach under furniture better than those with a circular design.

The D-Shape will briefly pause before beginning a cleaning process to make use of spinning infrared light to look over and evaluate the area. Then, it will work in a grid, systematically moving from one area to the next until the entire floor is cleaned. This method is more thorough and efficient than other companies using a random method.

The d-shape design also allows the D-Shape to have a larger dust bin, with 700ml as opposed to 400 to 600ml for similarly priced robots. In our tests, we observed that the D-Shape was stuck under a four-legged stool and also under an electrical cord that was exposed. However, it was able to free itself each time.

3. Roomba I3+ EV

The Roomba i3+ EVO is an excellent option for pet owners. It is a great choice for hard floors and does a great job of cleaning up any the traces of cereal, rice, and hair of pets. It is a bit shaky on carpet, but is superior to other robots in this price range. The Roomba EVO is also good at moving between different flooring types. It isn't stuck in transitions like the older models. The dual multi-surface brushes flex and adapt to various flooring types. They also aren't able to tangle pet hair.

The i3+ EVO has weaker obstacle-avoiding capability than the other robots that we evaluated. It frequently encountered objects such as handbags, pet toys, and shoes before continuing its route. It also had difficulty with coarse sea salt that it was able to blow around instead of picking up.

The i3+ EVO includes a number of great features to make it worth the extra cost compared to other Roomba models, like self-emptying bins and advanced control via the app. It is possible to schedule cleaning and set up custom routines. You can also create zones that block the robot from entering certain areas. The smart scheduling system can suggest additional cleanings during high allergy times in accordance with your routine. Its navigation system is unreliable and sometimes vacuums in erratic patterns such as diagonals or zigzags rather than parallel to walls.

It was extremely clean and maneuvered well in a house which had a mix of low-pile carpeting as well as floors that were bare and a mix of both. The vacuum does an excellent job of removing pet hair on carpeting. However, it doesn't have as much power as our top selections.

However, the Roborock S4 Max is better constructed, takes less time to recharge than the Shark, and provides more automation and scheduling features, including support for zones that are not allowed to be used. We'd still recommend the Shark If you're looking for something cheaper or if you prefer to use your mobile phone for control and monitoring rather than an actual remote.

It was able to navigate obstacles with ease during our tests and can be controlled with an app or voice. It even supports scheduled cleanings and has a large dustbin to collect mess before they get full. The only issue is that it can take up to 166 minutes to complete its work however that's still much better than the majority of robots we've tested.

The front-facing camera of this robot allows you to track the cleanliness of your home through a map with an app. It's especially useful if you're looking for a specific item or if the children spill glitter from your Christmas decorations all over your flooring. You can save yourself much frustration by finding the item you lost immediately. Furthermore, the fade-free lithium battery can last for up to 130 minutes on a single charge.

6. Roomba 694

The Roomba 694 is a stylish robot that can provide good cleaning. It does a great job moving itself and is able to reach under furniture without becoming stuck. It's also a great choice for carpets with low pile. However, it might occasionally get caught in rug tassels and have difficulty getting around corners or tight spaces. It also has difficulty picking up pet hair from all surfaces.

Despite the limited features of the 694 however, it still performs better than the majority of competitors. It was able to score an excellent score in our cereal-carpet test, and completed our cat litter test with only a few scattered pieces of litter left behind. It's not as efficient on hardwood floors. Its side brush scatters huge cereal particles that stick to the floor instead of vacuuming. It also had a tough time collecting table salt from a bare floor, with many grains falling across the floor and out of its reach.

It supports voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant via an external device (sold separately). It identifies your cleaning habits and provides you with a personalized schedule. Cliff Detect and an edge-sweeping brush ensure it gets into hard-to-reach corners, while Dirt Detect sensors alert it to areas that are heavily soiled. It comes with a dust bin that automatically emptys and the battery lasts for around 60 minutes. The pricier iRobot j7 is more advanced and performs better on all surfaces. It also feels better built and has a bigger dust bin it charges faster and is able to navigate obstacles such as electrical cords better.
