The iRobot Roomba 980, the latest in a series of top-of the-line robot vacuums, is a must for any modern home. What makes the Roomba 980 stand out from other high-end models, though, is its incorporation of the latest dirt detection feature, which uses cameras to identify particles of dirt embedded. This is a great improvement over the previous version, that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom cover method to bounce around the room and clean everything at minimum three times from various angles.

In our tests of its performance it was found that the Roomba 980 did well on both hard flooring and carpets. It scored highly on carpets with a low pile, and on mid-pile. It did a decent job of removing pet hair, [Redirect Only] but it was struggling with very thick and long pet fur that was stuck together.

Despite these slight limitations, the Roomba 980 remains one of our most efficient robots, and it's not even close to being as expensive as some of the other top-of-the-line models in this list. It still has a lot of features that we'd like to find in a flagship model however it lacks all the fancy apps or smart home integration you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is simple to set up and get up and running immediately. After taking the yellow bin insert and battery pull tab from its undercarriage you just plug it into the wall socket or one of its Home Base docking stations, press the "Clean button" and let it do its work. It will return to its dock when the battery runs out or is full of debris, robot vacuum mop and it also has indicator lights on the top to indicate when its bin is full or it requires recharging, or its Wi-Fi signal has gone out.
