It also has a camera sensor that can snap the Roomba back to reality when it begins to drift from its actual location.

iRobot also added a set of rollers underneath the Roomba which do not have bristles, and are therefore more likely to withstand the tangles that previous models. The rollers are also larger and can be placed under low couches or self vacuum robot beds. They're specifically designed to make this model more movable on various flooring types.

The Roomba 980 stands out from other models of high-end quality by its new dirt detection feature, which makes use of a camera in order to detect embedded dirt. This is a significant improvement over the previous version that relied on the sensor-driven pseudorandom coverage method to bounce around the room and clean it at least three times from different angles.

The Roomba 980 performed well in our tests on both carpets and hard floors. Its score on low pile carpet was excellent and it scored a good score on mid pile, too. It was successful in getting rid of pet hair, however it struggled with the long and thick pet hair that was stuck together.

The Roomba 980 is still one of the top performing robots on our list despite the minor drawbacks. It's also less expensive than other top-of the-line models. It comes with many of the features we would expect from a top model, but it doesn't have all the fancy apps or home integrations you'll find in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and Self Vacuum robot start up and running immediately. After you have removed the pull tab for the battery and the yellow bin insert from the undercarriage, all you need to do is plug it into its Home Base docking station or a wall socket, hit its big "Clean" button, and let it go to work. It will automatically return to its dock when its battery is out or it's full of debris, and it also has indicator lights on the top of the device to indicate that its bin is full, it's time to recharge or its Wi-Fi signal is lost.
