Smart Keys

This helps prevent unauthorized use, as it is difficult for the scanner to record the same codes for rolling repeatedly.

Your smart key could be dead if the device doesn't respond to the lock or unlock buttons. You can replace the battery on most fobs by taking the circuit board from the case. Take a photo of the battery that was used and note where the new one sits in the case so you can assemble it correctly after you're done. Key Fob Battery Replacement

The process of replacing the battery in your key fob isn't as hard or time-consuming as it appear. The process is simple and you can find replacement batteries at any hardware store or big-box retailer. You can also order them on the internet. In addition to being cheap, a new battery can restore the proper operation of your key fob.

The first step is to take the metal key from the fob. A small metal button is usually located just above the key part of the fob. Press it to release the key. Next, take apart the fob. You can do this by pressing an oblique notch that appears like a little keyhole, or by inserting a flat tool through the smallest opening on the fob. After you've split the fob into two pieces one on the front and one on the back, you can insert tools through the notch or small hole to access the battery compartment.

Examine the battery. It's likely to be silver and formed in the shape of a circle. The battery will have a label that indicates the kind of replacement battery you need. If you've got an alternative, take the old battery out of its case and place the new one in. Be careful not to contact the flat surface of the battery which are prone to fingerprints and can affect the life of the battery.

Reinstall the key fob case. If you're careful, you don't have to force it into place. If it doesn't snap into place, apply gentle pressure to the edges to remove it from the plastic frame. Reattach the metal key and switch it on to test the fob. Once everything is reassembled the key fob should be like new.
