Weather Stripping

The first step in sash window repairs is addressing weather stripping. It's found on both the sash and frame. If it's worn or loose, out, it can cause drafts and other issues. In order to make these repairs to the sash it is essential to have all of the necessary tools lined up before you begin. Mark the hinge channel's location on the frame (Photo 1) with pencil. Sash Weights

Whether your window sash repairs are to replace a damaged cord or simply to keep your windows functioning, replacing worn out sash weights will improve sash operation and reduce energy costs. Sash weights are hefty lead or iron cylinders, which are enclosed inside a hidden compartment and linked to the moveable the sash with rope. They function as counterbalances, which allows you to open and close the window without having to use mechanical or electrical devices. The sash weights are usually ignored or discarded by homeowners and then turned into scrap when they fail; therefore, you may need to find replacements.
