In this video, Charles the humble mechanic demonstrates how to replace the G28 engine speed sensor. This sensor is located near the edges of the transmission just above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal to the ECU via a grey wire (T55/49) and then to the tachometer in the instrument cluster.

1. Engine Speed Sensor

The grey wire is situated on the edge of transmission, just above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends an electrical signal through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an indicator to the G5 Tachometer in instrument cluster.

The sensor is used to connect the G40 Camshaft position Sensor. The ecu must be aware when the crankshaft is TDC and the location of the camshaft so it can start spark and injectors according to the situation.

If this sensor fails to function, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is out of sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also be a sign of a chain stretch or xilubbs.xclub.tw a jumped chain link in the upper chain. The code will not appear without the additional information supplied by other sensors (G4 or G40).

It's a bit tricky to test because there are different connector pins, and each one has different functions. 2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating at full speed from the highway paytoll i had a big cut in power as if the engine was running out of gas or the injectors aren't firing any more. I pulled out the spark plugs this morning, three were soaked in gasoline, and the fourth was dry. I put a piece of tissue over each hole in the injector and when i start the engine with no sparks, the three with gazoline jump out. The fourth one remains closed. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55,30/55 and 48/55 I get zero ohm. Therefore, i think the issue is in another place.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car can start if the G28 is unplugged and is running fine when it is plugged in however it is experiencing intermittent misfires at higher RPM. The temperature sensor for the coolant (G62) shows the wrong temperature value of -49c, even if I unplug it. Also i noticed that the gauge for oil pressure in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 when I crank up the engine.

I'm not certain what to do, i believe that i've ruled out everything else. But i am afraid I might have missed something. Let me know should you have any suggestions! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 receives a signal from the RPM sensor. The GM-style transmitter is the same as the G4 and they both work in the 80, 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars so you can easily find one at a salvage yard or in a local parts store.
