Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has been recognised for his stellar performance in the latest round of fixtures, earning a place in the BBC Premier League Team of the Week. The selection, curated by former Watford striker Troy Deeney, highlights Bassey's impressive display in Fulham’s 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Craven Cottage.

The Nigerian international was instrumental in securing a clean sheet against Spurs, recording five tackles, two clearances, and winning an aerial duel. Additionally, he completed 91.1% of his passes and even attempted a dribble, demonstrating both defensive solidity and composure on the ball.

Deeney praised Bassey’s resilience and defensive awareness, stating:

He doesn’t get as much credit as Joachim Andersen next to him, but he was bullish, strong, solid in the tackle and epitomised that Fulham team."

Bassey joins an elite defensive lineup that includes Manchester United’s Matthijs de Ligt, Everton’s Jake O’Brien, and Brighton’s Pervis Estupiñán. In midfield, Bruno Fernandes Manchester United, Christian Norgaard Brentford, and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City made the list, while the forward trio consisted of Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, Jorgen Strand Larsen Wolves, and Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

So far this season, Bassey has started 27 Premier League matches, scoring one goal, a match-winner against Nottingham Forest in February.
