They are light and come with a soft carrying case and fold flat to fit in your bag. The touch controls are intuitive and simple to use, and the battery can last for 30 hours with no ANC. They also include an auto-pause feature that turns off your headphones once they are removed from your head to conserve battery.

The WH1000XM5 is compatible with Sony Headphones Connect, which offers a variety of features that can be used to customize the audio experience. The app can be used to monitor your location and adapt the sound quality of your environment. The microphone is also integrated for hands-free calls. The Sony WH1000XM5 is able to play music wirelessly through Bluetooth or wired using the cable that comes with. They can support aptX, HD aptX and aptX Adaptive codecs that play high quality audio via Bluetooth.

Similar to the XM4 The WH-1000XM5 is lightweight and comfortable, with a a well-padded headband and ear cups. They're easy to wear for long periods of time and are comfortable enough for commutes as well as longer flights. They offer excellent noise cancellation performance that blocks out most background noise, but without sacrificing clarity and detail. The Sony WH1000XM5 headphones offer a good amount of bass, especially for closed-back headphones. They also provide a great soundstage and a clear separation between vocals and instruments.

The low latency is a major plus. The lag is so small that it's barely noticeable and they can be used for gaming on the go. They're not the ideal choice for video games that compete and are a good choice for people who will be using them for entertainment and for making calls using hands-free technology.

Sony is committed to incorporating intelligent features into its products and the WH1000XM5 is no different. The active noise cancellation feature was one of the best I've used and they have a whole range of smart features to improve your listening experience. They also come with Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to close to high quality. They're also compatible with Sony's own LDAC technology that streams higher-bitrate audio over Bluetooth (although not as high-quality as the headphone DAC that's dedicated).

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Since the release of the first generation PX7 in 2015, Bowers & Wilkins' flagship headphones have often been included on top wireless headset lists which puts them in the same bracket as the likes Sony WH-1000XM5 and Bose's QuietComfort. Its newest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the original headphones to a higher level, with better ANC performance and a new design.

The bio-cellulose drivers that measure 40mm inside the earcups are placed in a way that they directly hit your eardrums. This delivers a more intimate audio experience than other headphones with a closed back. It's a bold statement however the PX7 S2 can deliver on. Vocals cut through clearly, and bass is a deep and rumbly when it needs to be.

The PX7 S2 also performs very well with voice calls, with clear and crisp sound that doesn't muddle your own voice. They also provide a fast charge that can get you back to full power in just two hours. Furthermore, they're compatible with hi-res audio thanks to an aptX adaptive Bluetooth codec that allows them to play 24-bit music.

For most listeners, though the most important change is the improvement in noise cancellation and audio quality. In our tests, the PX7 S2 eliminated nearly all of our simulated aircraft cabin noise with impressive efficiency and also performed well when we performed Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus from his Grosse Messe, demonstrating excellent insight into the dynamic shifts between the solo voice, wind trio, and orchestral accompaniment.

Alongside improved ANC In addition to improved ANC, as well as improved ANC, PX7 S2s come with a variety of other features that make them very comparable to other top-rated noise-canceling headphones. 3. Focal Bathys Wireless

Focal Bathys is the best option for audiophiles who value high-fidelity and are in search of headphones that can be used wirelessly to block out noise. The Focal Bathys were the first ANC headphones made by a French audio manufacturer to utilize Bluetooth. They offer amazing sound quality both in Bluetooth mode and when connected via USB to a device for true hi-fi audio with up to 24-bit/192kHz.

The Bathys look gorgeous with their sleek black finish and swooping curves that are like Focal's premium open back Elear and closed-back Celestee headphones. The Bathys are built with premium materials like magnesium and aluminum that make them feel durable, comfortable, and well worth the cost.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones provide crisp, vibrant sound quality. They easily surpass consumer ANC devices of similar price like the Sony XM5/5 or Bose QC45. They can be improved further with direct DAC audio mode, making them an excellent choice for those who love hi-fi.

The Focal and Naim app allows users to adjust the playback controls of the headphone and Bluetooth pairing preferences. They can choose between silent or soft intensities for ANC as well as alter the brightness of LEDs that are on the ear cups, and tweak settings for EQ. The app is bare but has enough features to warrant its purchase.

The most notable flaw is that the active noise cancellation does not perform as well as the competition. The headphone isn't able to block out all the background noise like the top-rated XM5 or AirPods Max, and its treble accuracy is subpar, with a muddy mid to high-end that can be distracting from vocals and instruments.

The Focal Bathys aren't the most portable headphones. The ear cups aren't foldable down and weigh a bit more than their counterparts, which means that they're not ideal for use on the road. They're lightweight and comfortable to wear, although they feel a bit too compressed for my liking. In my tests, the CH720N's hybrid technology for noise cancellation did a fantastic job of reducing ambient sound. There were only a few glitches while walking around Waterloo Station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers weren't able to block every Ultimate sound experience: YHO Bluetooth Headphones with Mic in the vicinity, but they did struggle with lower frequencies sounds, such as the rumbling engine sound of trains and buses.

The streaming of music via the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth and showed a low amount of harmonic distortion. I tested a variety of genres and discovered that they handled the intricate interplay between instruments very well. It did an impressive job of taming the bass in rock tracks and keeping the mix in focus.

I like the fact that you can adjust the Sony Headphones Connect app to customize the CH720N's ANC and multipoint connectivity settings to your liking and add a variety of audio presets. You can also activate DSEE via the app, which enhances the quality of sound and boosts compression of audio files.

While the WH-CH720N does not have some of Sony's primetime functions compared to the XM5 (such as Quick Attention and Speak-to-Chat) they do offer a solid feature set for PS130. You can access 360 Reality Audio and a range of smart controls, as well as the aforementioned DSEE upscaling feature. The only thing that's missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support which I believe would have been a welcome inclusion.
