Changing the Battery in Your Mazda 3 Key Fob

It's frustrating to get in your car at the end of a long, hard day and discover that your key fob is dead. This is a simple fix that can be done at a big box retailer or hardware store.

A spare key fob for your Mazda 3 is an inexpensive way to avoid having to take your vehicle to a dealership to have them re-program the keys.

Battery Replacement

Removing the battery from your Mazda 3 key fob is an easy process that can perform at home. However, you should only replace the battery when it goes out of service, or if the key fob displays a message on the multi-information display that reads, "Low key fob battery. Replace battery."

You'll need to use a flathead screwdriver, tape and patience to open the case. Locate a notch or gap in the bottom of the metal part of the mazda 6 key 3's key fob and insert the head of the screwdriver to break off the lower half. Repeat the procedure for the top metal piece, but be sure not to scratch the rubber ring on the bottom of the case.

Once the fob case is opened, you'll notice an opening on either side of the case that houses the battery. Start on the opposite side of the case and then gently lift it up. Remove the old CR2025 and replace it with a new one, making sure that you put it on its face to ensure the correct polarity. Install the cap on the battery again and attach both sides of your key fob case by pressing until they click.

Pairing Issues

This could mean that the transmitter in your car is damaged. This is usually a matter of a professional to repair and will likely require a replacement key fob.

If you've attempted to replace the battery and reprogramme the key fob, but it hasn't worked, the chip inside the key fob could be defective. This can happen if your keyfob has been dropped or exposed to saltwater or the touch of dirty fingers.

You'll need to locate a small "key" that is inserted into the seam, in order to remove the circuit board to identify the issue. You will then be able check for any corrosion or damage on the chip. It is best to use a clean paper towel to keep the microchip from being damaged.

If you are unsure you are not sure, you can check the battery connector terminals for cracks or breakage. If this is the case, soldering the terminals back into place can usually restore the functionality of the key fob. Also, you can check the buttons to see whether they've been worn out or damaged. If the buttons are loose they can be soldered back to their original position unless they have physically snapped.

Interference Signals

There's nothing more difficult than trying to start your car and then seeing the message "No Fob Detected". It usually happens at the most awkward time, such as when you're late for work or when you have to pick up children from school/daycare. There are some things you can do to find out what's causing the issue.

Interference signals can cause the remote key fob to cease working in a proper manner. This can be caused by things like buildings, weather conditions and transmitters that use the same frequency. Interference can also occur if you have equipment from an aftermarket manufacturer installed in the vehicle that transmits at the same frequency as the key fob.

The key fob can also be damaged if it is exposed to water or salty water. The rubber seals on the electronic chip can be damaged by water, particularly when it is submerged over an extended period of time, such as in a pool or ocean at the beach. This can cause the chip's function to cease and will require replacement of the key fob. If you have a programable key cleaning the chip with isopropyl Alcohol or an electronic cleaner to help it come back to normal. If this doesn't help the chip, it is likely to be damaged and needs to be replaced.

Locking and Unlocking the Doors

The buttons on the key fob send electronic signals to the solenoid inside the car, which then transforms this signal into a mechanical action. It locks and unlocks doors. If your door lock doesn't work it could be due to an issue with the solenoid. This requires professionals from auto repair shops to examine.

A dead battery of 12 volts can also prevent the fob from functioning correctly. This happens when the battery's charge is lost or the contacts become corroded and stop conducting electricity. The good news is that a new battery is able to solve this issue in only minutes.

The receiver module could be the reason why the key fob isn't working after replacing the battery or reprogram the device. This device interprets radio frequency signals sent by the key fob to control the vehicle. It could be a costly repair if it malfunctions.

To check if this is the case, begin by putting your spare key into the key slot and turning the ignition to ON. Press the key fob twice in a period of 10 seconds, without removing it.
