The app also comes with advanced features, such as boundary lines remote control access while the robot is working and a range of other options.

This model is the latest in a long line of robots from Neato and has a distinctive "D" shape when viewed from above. The i3+ EVO's obstacle-avoiding capability isn't as strong as the other robots we tested and it repeatedly encountered objects during our tests, such as handbags, shoes and pet toys before continuing its journey. It also had issues with coarse kosher sea salt, which it blew around instead of taking it up.

The i3+ EVO includes a number of great features to make it worth the additional cost over other Roomba models, such as the ability to empty the dustbin automatically and advanced control via the app. You can schedule cleanings and set up custom routines. You can also create zones that prohibit the robot from entering certain areas. The smart scheduling system can suggest additional cleanings during high allergy times, depending on your routine. Its navigation system isn't reliable and sometimes vacuums in erratic patterns, such as diagonals or zigzags rather than parallel to walls.

4. Shark AI Self-Empty, XL

With its precise mapping technology, this intelligent robot is able to know your home better than you can.
