I tried the ION XL in a family and kitchen room with hardwood flooring, area rugs and a standard debris test. It did an excellent job vacuuming and clearing debris, pet hair, and even some of the most stubborn carpet crumbs. It was also very good at moving around my bar stool and did not bump into them as the iRobot J7+ did during this test. The only downside is that the ION XL can't detect toys, cords and shoes in its path, therefore you'll need to clean your home prior to running this robot vacuum to avoid these things.

The ION XL may not be as smart as the iRobot j7+, but it's an option for those who don't want to spend more than $500 on a robot cleaner. It's better than the RoboVac 11S, in many ways. It's easier to maintain and has lower costs for recurring maintenance. It also does a better job of vacuuming floors with no carpet and removing pet hair, but it can't do as well on lowor high-pile carpet.
