It will then continue to use that information to avoid obstacles. In our tests it did not get stuck on power cords, long curtains and even dog toys. It's not perfect and sometimes it is stuck on things like tangled cables or odd toys or books.

You can control the S7 Max Ultra via its smartphone app, which is where you'll find all the advanced features that set it apart from other robotic vacuums and mops. There are room-specific mopping and cleaning options, a schedule planner and a power strength choice for mopping and vacuuming. You can also connect the S7 Max Ultra with Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa to create a smart home. The wide range of features makes the S7 Max Ultra can do almost everything a traditional robot vacuum does but at a fraction of the cost.

The S7 Max Ultra vacuuming is impressive. It did a great job picking up pet fur, dirt, and other particles, both on carpet and hard floors. The automatic dustbin emptying feature was flawless in our tests. This was very and reassuring. It also boasts 5100 Pa HyperForce suction rating, which is considerably superior to the 2,500Pa suction power of the S6 MaxV and S7.

The S7 Max Ultra mopping performance was also good, but not the best. It used microfiber mops that absorb liquids, and sonic vibration technology to scrub floors with up to 3,000 revolutions per minutes. This was more efficient than the X1 Omni circular pads that rotate at a rate of 180 rotations per minute. The S7 Max Ultra’s ReactiveAI 2.0 obstruction recognition system is extremely effective. During our testing it didn't snag on any object and it stayed clear of power cords long curtains, power cords and other obstacles that could be in the way 100% of the time.

2. Narwal Freo

Vaccuming and mopping your floors is one of those chores that we all hate, but are essential to maintain a clean home. It's a messy and often smelly job that can be difficult to complete because it involves dustbins, dirty water and the necessity of making sure that debris or hair doesn't clog the traps or brushes. This is why vacuuming and mopping robots have become extremely popular. A lot of these machines require you to empty the dustbin, and wash and rinse mop pads by hand. This is a hassle particularly if you have to repeat this process several times during or after cleaning sessions. We're glad to see that a number of manufacturers are introducing self-emptying robot vacuum for pets robots that will make the entire process easier and less stressful.

The Narwal Freo, the newest model in the robotic vacuum Cleaner self Emptying cleaners category, comes with a number of enhancements to sensors, software and hardware that are designed to keep it on the top of its game. This includes the trademarked DirtSense technology and Smart-Swing feature, which both work to better sense the floor surface being cleaned and automatically adjusts the cleaning mode depending on what type of floor it is. The Freo also monitors dirt and automatically cleans mops when they are full. This improves the efficiency of subsequent cleaning sessions as it doesn't return to soiled areas.

Another significant improvement that the Freo has over its predecessor is the capacity to direct control it using an LCD touchscreen on its base station, in addition to using the smartphone app. This is a first in a robot vacuum and mop and is definitely a welcome change if you'd rather skip the hassle of using the app. You can even adjust the route during the session using the LCD screen controls.

The Narwal Freo also does a good job of keeping the noise down when it is working and registering just 64dB in suction mode. However, maintaining the Freo isn't a breeze as you'll need to regularly clean various components, such as the primary brush roll and side brushes.

3. Ecovacs Deebot T9+

The Ecovacs Deebot T9+ (available at The Good Guys for $1279) is among the most efficient self-emptying robot vacuum and mop combinations on the market. It is capable of mapping out your home, vacuuming and mopping, while also spotting and avoid obstacles. It can even release an air freshener.

The app generates a map of your home that you can use to tidy. It's simple to install. The app allows you to choose certain rooms or areas to be cleaned. You can also set the time of day you'd like it begin cleaning, so that your floors are kept clean even when you're asleep or away.

In our tests during our tests, the T9+ was extremely impressive when it came to navigating obstacles. It is known to take a shrewd route around the home. This often meant it ended up at the same place it had started cleaning moments earlier. It didn't happen very often however enough to be noticed.

The T9+ comes with a variety of accessories that include the robotic cleaner itself and docking station and an auto-empty station. The mopping module and a replacement dust bin are available separately.

The upgraded navigation, mapping, and obstacle detection systems are designed to keep your home tidy without interruptions. The updated 3D detection and obstacle avoidance technology recognises objects with high-precision resolution to avoid collisions or disturbances.

The Deebot T9+ is capable of vacuuming, sweeping and mopping simultaneously and leaves your floor looking fresh as new. The disposable mopping pads are easy to put on, and the microfiber cloth efficiently traps dust, blocks away stains, and doesn't leave any residue. The large volume 2.5L auto-empty station is able to hold up to 30 days of debris, without leaks, making it easy to keep your home tidy with minimal effort. The T9+ also comes with an upgraded 3000Pa vacuum motor that delivers powerful suction for an effective clean.

4. iRobot Combo j7+

The iRobot Combo j7+ robot is an excellent choice for cleaning floors. It's a vacuum cleaner and mop in one. It is extremely well-equipped for navigation and obstacle avoidance. This lets it identify your home and clean areas, without crashing into walls or furniture. The app allows you to set up zones to indicate areas that require to be cleaned and those that you don't want to clean. You can also set up zones for no-mop or robotic vacuum cleaner self emptying no-sweep zones.

IRobot's innovative iAdapt 2.0 technology is a big component of what makes the Combo J7+ so clever. This uses the front camera which is located on top of the majority of its robots. It can identify hazards, such as power cords or pet waste, and avoid them. In addition, iAdapt 2.0 enables the Combo j7+ to recognize dirt levels and focus on the areas that are more prone to dirt than others.

When the Combo J7+ senses that it is on a floor that must be cleaned, a robot arm with a mop pads lifts from beneath the vacuum. It then mops the floor robotic vacuum cleaner self emptying until it senses that the mopping pads are dry, which only takes about 90 minutes.

I was able to control the Combo j7+ from the mobile application, which is user-friendly and well-designed. It also integrates with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa and you can instruct it to begin cleaning with a voice. The only downside was the small water tank on the Combo J7+, which means you need to refill it often or limit its mopping to smaller areas and use it more frequently in eco-mode.

The Combo J7+ has an extremely small dust bin which you have to empty manually. The Combo mop pads were also less efficient than other brands. This is a shame since this model is otherwise excellent.
