After a number of social media posts hinting at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. It's called Space Key and developed in collaboration with an undisclosed artist, it is built on a piece of advanced carbon fiber composite material that was sent to the International Space Station for research purposes.

After months of social media posts that hinted at it, a prestigious car manufacturer Lamborghini has finally revealed its first non-fungible token (NFT) project. The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that unlocks an exclusive digital artwork by an unknown artist. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the collector's piece is limited to just five units and will be auctioned off soon.

The core of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material that was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with QR codes that link to the digital element of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that happens seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. More than 600 million pixels make each of the five images, that were taken by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon with a camera to capture each of the individual shots, which were then merged into the final image. The result is an out of this world image that reveals the beauty of the Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic picture of the car rising from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, however the exact date and time of the auction hasn't been revealed yet.

The auction

Each one will be sold separately and the winner will receive an original digital art work made by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five different moments that the Space Key passed during its flight through space.
