You can control the robot with an app or voice commands and you can even create a map of your home to clean each room on demand. The robot can also move around furniture and navigate stairs and carpeted rooms easily.

I tested the ION XL using our standard debris test in a family space and kitchen with hardwood floors and area rugs. It did an excellent job vacuuming, removing pet hair and debris from the floors, and picked up some of the more difficult crumbs on carpets. It was also very good in getting around my barstools and did not bump into them as the iRobot j7+ did in this test. The only issue with the ION XL is that it does not detect cords, shoes, or toys in its path. You will need to clean your home before you use this vacuum to avoid them.

The ION XL isn't as efficient as the iRobot j7+, but it's an option if you don't want to spend more than $500 for cleaning robots. It's better than the less expensive RoboVac 11S in most ways and is simpler to maintain and incurring lower recurring costs. It's also better in vacuuming floors that are not clean and picking up pet fur, but isn't as good on low- or higher-pile carpet.

It's not as sturdy, but it's still an excellent choice. The ION XL is a powerful machine with a huge capacity bin. It can be operated by an app or voice command and is easy to maintain. It also has an affordable price.
