The ION XL Robot Vacuum With Self Empty vacuum is one of the most flexible available. It can clean carpets and hard floors. You can control the robot with an app or voice commands. You can also create a map to clean your home at any time. The robot also does well at moving around furniture and can even move through stairs and fully-carpeted rooms easily.

I tested the ION XL in a kitchen and family room with hardwood flooring, area rugs and a standard debris test. It was excellent at cleaning up and removing pet hair, debris, and even some of the more difficult to remove carpet crumbs. It also did a great job at getting around my barstools and didn't hit them as the iRobot J7+ did during this test. The only issue with the ION XL is that it does not detect shoes, cords or toys in its path. You will need to clean your home before you run this robotic vacuum to avoid them.

The ION XL may not be as sophisticated as the iRobot J7+, but it is an option for those who don't want to spend more than $500 for cleaning robots. It's better than the RoboVac 11S, in many ways. It's simpler to maintain and has lower monthly costs. It also performs better of vacuuming floors with no carpet and removing pet hair, but it doesn't perform as well on highor high pile carpet.

It's not as well-built but it's still a solid option. The ION XL has a large bin capacity, it is controlled with an app and voice commands, and it is easy to keep up with routine maintenance. It is also a reasonable price.
