Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos

A robot vacuum is the best tool for maintaining the cleanliness of your home. It can remove dust, pet hair, and other surface debris.

Certain robots can connect to smart assistants like Alexa or Google Assistant to provide a environment that is hands-free. Find models that are rechargeable and continue cleaning where they left off.

1. iRobot S8

This smart robot vacuum and mop combo is an excellent choice for many homes. It can be used to vacuum and mop vacuum robot, has excellent navigation with both GPS and laser sensors, and offers a broad range of controls and features accessible through the app. It comes with a useful feature that lets you create cleaning zones in areas that require more attention, and Keep Out zones in areas you don't want it to be. It also receives software updates, just like the other Roomba products, which enhance it over time.

It's expensive but also one of the most sophisticated robot vacuums ZDNet has ever tested. It's got a huge battery that can clean an entire home in less than two hours. It also switches between mopping and vacuuming at the touch of the button. And, unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty the dust bin after each run, robot it automatically emptys itself into an even larger waste container on top of its charging dock.

It also comes with a variety of other features, including intelligent obstacle avoidance that uses cameras in conjunction with processor-powered smarts to recognize obstacles. It's not often tripped or stuck during a cleaning cycle. In my tests it was the most effective at avoiding objects such as power cables. However, it's not as accurate in detecting pet waste or other dangers.

2. Eufy RoboVac X8 Hybrid

While Anker-owned Eufy has made an impact in low-cost robot vacuums it hasn't previously offered an all-in-one model which can also mop. The X8 Hybrid is a new model that offers a range of features that are advanced and is able to compete with more expensive models.

The laser navigation is the primary selling point of this machine. The previous Eufy devices have constructed an outline of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into objects but the X8's laser mapping technology is more precise. It also takes significantly less time to construct an accurate picture of your home and can store multiple maps, which is ideal for homes with multiple floors.

The X8 is a great vacuum mop combo robot cleaner on bare floors. It can easily sling debris under the side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin. Its tyres are also very adept at hugging edges and corners even though they're circular. It's not a fantastic cat litter picker, though, with our tests showing it only removes about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.

The basic mopping mode utilizes the same water reservoir as the vacuuming mode. While this is great for spills that are not too large but you cannot limit the amount of water it uses which can limit its effectiveness for more severe staining. It does a good job at picking up hair from pets. It has a higher rate of pick-up than the Roborock S7.

3. Miele RX2

Miele's RX2 robotic vacuum is known for its quiet, effective appliances. It is a stunning design, superb navigation and an impressive cleaning power. However, it does have some operational issues that prevent it from being ranked as the best overall smart robot vacuum.

The RX2 is equipped with a dual-sensor mapping system that uses a LIDAR to map an area, and a pair 3D scanning cameras to detect and avoiding obstacles (such as furniture legs or pet waste). Once the room is identified it is possible to assign virtual no-go zones and sections that you would like to be the robot. You can also begin cleaning manually or change the cleaning mode, view live feeds from the cameras onboard and more on the main screen.

The RX2's sensors are effective, registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. The suction and sweeping power are top-notch and cleans up surface debris from carpets with medium piles and dust on floors that are unfinished. It's not the most powerful robot available. It's not the greatest climber and has issues with metal threshold transition strips.

Some people buy a robot vacuum for the ease of setting up a schedule using an app and not thinking about it for weeks at an time. It's crucial for a robot to be able to do the job and that's why our ZDNet team has tested and looked over some of the most popular models to help you select the best one for your home.

4. Shark ION

This budget robot looks like your standard robot, however it's an upgrade in terms of performance and features. Its intelligent mapping system creates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses those to navigate around obstacles and avoid them. It's even able to spot common obstacles such as power cords and furniture legs in real-time. This combination of sensors together with a bump sensor and an infrared drop sensor that keeps it from falling down steps make it one of the fastest vacuums we've tested.

It was able to walk over carpets with thick shags and didn't get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s, or Roomba 690-). Its navigational skills were impressive as well; its composite score in carpet and bare floors was better than the competition. It picked up 98.5 percent of surface litter and robot embedded pet hair from our lab test samples.

The controls are simpler than those of the competition's. There is a cleaning button at the top and you can choose to start it by using the app or by voice commands using Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for weekly or daily cleans, set areas that are not allowed to be cleaned, and check the history of its cleaning. Clad in smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks attractive in your home. Its rear dustbin is easily accessible for emptying, and removing the filters is also simple.

5. Eufy 11S

Eufy 11S is an excellent option if you're looking for a robot vacuum that's simple and doesn't have any frills at a reasonable price. The model isn't equipped with smart features such as Alexa integration and digital mapping that are found in more expensive models. If you do not need these functions, you can save money.

This robot is simple to use and set up. It does not require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does include the remote control that lets you select between different modes and alter the suction level. It also lets you manually turn off the robovac during scheduled cleaning.

During our tests during our tests, the 11S was very effective at getting rid of pet hair and dirt from hard floors and in carpets with a low pile. Its slim profile made it possible to fit under furniture with low hanging and other objects that larger robots are unable to reach. It was able to get effortlessly over door thresholds and transition between floors of different types to another.

Like other robots, the 11S is able to take in some objects, such as cords drawstrings on hoodies and cat toys. The manufacturer suggests you keep these objects off the ground and using a cord organiser if possible. It also recommends that you periodically clean the dustbin, change the filters, and change or wash the brushes when necessary.

Roomba 990 from iRobot

The Roomba 980 is iRobot's most popular robot vacuum. It's expensive but it's the most powerful robot vacuum you can buy. Its self-navigation as well as environmental mapping is something to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than many competitors, such as the ability to set virtual boundary markers with its mobile app. It's a dependable robot vacuum, even if its app isn't the most responsive and the 980's wheels spin out when it comes across cables.

One thing we love about the 980 is that it uses its iAdapt 2.0 navigation sensors and its visual simultaneous localisation and mapping technology (or vSLAM) to store the floor plan of your home. It will then use the information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for each cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a more efficient vacuum than the majority of high-end robot vacuums.

Other features include two multi-surface rubber brushes that pick up dirt from hard floors and carpet, along with an ejector brush that moves debris into the bin of the robotic vacuum. Its floor tracking sensors aid it navigate around furniture and along edges, and Cliff Detect prevents the Roomba from falling down stairs. It also automatically returns to its base station to ensure hassle-free charging between sessions. While the 980's battery life and bin size aren't quite as efficient as other robot vacuums, it's a reliable and solid machine that can keep your floors clean for hours on end.
