After a number of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally revealed its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. Space Key is a project that was created in collaboration with a non-disclosed artist and based upon advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a new project which was announced by Lamborghini.

After weeks of social-media posts hinting it, luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally announced its first project involving tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). The project is dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock a unique digital art work NFT by a yet-to-be-identified artist. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm), the collector's piece is limited to just five units and will soon be auctioned off.

At the center of each Space Key is a block made of the most advanced carbon fire composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with QR codes that connect to the digital element within the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a distinct moment that happens seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Each of the five images was captured by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner used a balloon equipped with a camera, which took each of the individual images, which were later merged into the final image. The result is an out-of-this world photo that captures the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic look of the car erupting from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off in the near future, but there's no precise date or location yet.

The auction

Each NFT will be offered separately and the winner will receive an artwork created by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner that captures five different moments the Space Key experienced during its journey through space.
