Technology

Bentley's engineering expertise is an important asset in the construction of infrastructure projects however, the company is also increasingly relying upon technology to meet rising workload demands. Bentley Systems, at its 2022 Year in Infrastructure event, unveiled a range of enhanced products that utilize digital twins and cloud-based data to facilitate faster and more precise project delivery.

Bentley's highly advanced AM system for instance, can convert 3D CAD designs into physical components. The technology was used to create everything from on-the-job supported tools for Bentley's employees in manufacturing to the historically accurate tools to restore its famous woodshop and also a light sanding block needed to create Bentley cars driven in record-breaking time at the Pikes Peak Challenge.

The ProjectWise platform was enhanced with several new features, including the ability to reuse digital components; an enhanced capability for civil design review and the capability to conduct a Drive Simulation to test the potential of a design; and an integration of multiple formats for project files to one workspace to facilitate collaborative review of design. Bentley also introduced the brand new Bentley Infrastructure Cloud, a suite of integrated solutions that span the entire infrastructure project lifecycles.

The new solutions include an iTwin Bridge Monitoring solution that makes use of drone videos and iTwin Capture to provide real-time bridge inspections as well as the ability to track and monitor performance through IoT sensors layered on a digital twin and a Dam Monitoring solution that provides unidirectional access to sensor information. Bentley is also working to integrate its iTwin platform with the Embodied Carbon in Construction Calculator (EC3) to help users meet sustainability standards.
