If your key fob comes with the remote start feature it will let you turn on the engine without having to hold the keys to your car in hand. This is especially helpful if it's hot outside and you want to cool your vehicle while you run around. However, there are some things to consider before making use of this feature.

Certain key fobs have an engine start button you can press to start your car remotely (for instance, Ford has a circular arrow that moves clockwise on its key fob). Others, such as Mazdas, require that you first lock the key and then press the start button.

You may have a weak or dead battery in your key fob if you're not able to start the car. This is because the batteries of the key fob aren't strong enough to send an effective signal to the car's system.
