Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

Following a series of social media posts that hinted at it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally announced its NFT (non fungible token) Project. It's called Space Key and developed in collaboration with an undisclosed artist It is built on a piece of advanced carbon fiber composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station for research purposes.

Lamborghini, the Italian automobile manufacturer, is taking a first step into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project, named the Space Key, is a work of art created in collaboration with an unidentified artist. The one-of-a-kind NFT is a physical item that connects to exclusive digital artwork, accessible via an QR code printed on the back. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material which Lamborghini, as part of a research project in the year 2019, sent to the International Space Station. The carbon fiber was then crafted into a unique artwork when it returned to Earth. The physical component has an NFT serial number that is linked to the digital art work via a QR code on the back.

For those who aren't in the know, NFTs are unique identifiers stored on a blockchain ledger. They are linked to digital assets such as a video, image, music or other record. This lets owners ensure the authenticity, scarcity and trackability of their tokens over the internet.

Working with NFT PRO, a white-label NFT solution for businesses, Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to a new level. In the coming weeks, Lamborghini will release details about this exciting project including the name of the unknown artist and a timetable for the auction.

The physical component of Space Key

After a series of social media posts that tease some kind of space-themed item, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini has stepped into the realm of tokens that are not fungible (NFT) with a unique project dubbed Space Key. The NFT was developed in collaboration with a mysterious artist and will be auctioned in just a few weeks. At its heart is a piece that's made of the latest carbon fiber composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station (ISS) in 2019 as part of an experiment. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to form the basis of each Space Key, which is linked with an exclusive, digital design using the QR code printed on the back of the key. Five Space Keys have been produced.

NFTs are unique identifications that can be recorded in distributed ledgers, such as the Blockchain and connected to digital assets such as images. It's a hot topic with people who have more money than they have common sense. So it was only a matter of time until automakers decided to take advantage of.

Space Key consists of five units. The components were built using a physical piece of the carbon fiber composite which was delivered to the ISS in the year 2019. Each NFT will be equipped with an QR code that will link it to a special digital art work by the same artist. More details will be made available in the coming days and weeks including the name of the artist, the digital artwork and the method of purchasing one of the five Space Keys.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social-media posts that hinted at it, luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally revealed its first project for tokens that are non-fungible (NFT). Called the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock an exclusive digital art work NFT by an artist yet to be identified. Developed in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) the "collector's work" is limited to only five units and will be auctioned off shortly.

At the center of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material. It was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research project. After returning to Earth the space key was made into a QR code, which connects it to the digital component of the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Over 600 million pixels make each of the five images which were captured by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used an inflatable camera fitted with a lens to capture the individual images, which were then assembled into the final photograph. The result is an out of this world photo that captures the beauty of the Earth as well as the futuristic, hyper-realistic view of the lambo car key rising from it. The Space Keys are going to be auctioned off soon, but there's no precise date or time yet.

The auction
