Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

Following a series of social media posts suggesting it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally revealed its NFT (non fungible token) Project. Space Key is a project that was created in collaboration with an unidentified artist and based upon advanced carbon fiber composite materials that were shipped to the International Space Station as research material, is a project which was announced by Lamborghini.

Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is taking a dive into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The new project - called the Space Key - is a piece of art made in collaboration with an artist who is not known. The NFT is a unique piece of digital art that can be obtained by scanning a QR code. The project is limited to five pieces and will be auctioned in the coming weeks.

The Space Key is made from a carbon fiber composite material that Lamborghini smuggled to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of an experiment. When it returned to earth the carbon fiber was transformed into this unique artwork. The physical object is inscribed with an NFT serial number, which is tied to the corresponding digital artwork using a QR code that is located on the back.

For those not in the aware, NFTs are unique identification numbers that are stored on a distributed blockchain ledger and tied to digital assets such as a photograph, video or music. This enables owners to guarantee the authenticity, scarcity and the traceability of their tokens on the internet.

Working with NFT PRO, a white-label NFT solution for companies, Lamborghini is taking this unique approach to art to a new level. In the coming weeks Lamborghini will release details about this exciting project including the name of the unidentified artist and a timeline for the auction.

The physical component of the Space Key

After a series of social media posts teasing something that was space-related, the Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini introduced the world of non-fungible (NFT) tokens through an exclusive project called Space Key. Developed in collaboration with an unknown artist, the NFT is a collector's piece that will be auctioned off within a couple of weeks. At its heart is a piece that's made of the latest carbon fiber composite material that was delivered to the International Space Station (ISS) in the year 2019 as part of an experiment. The carbon fiber has been 3D printed to form the base of each Space Key, which is linked with an exclusive, purely digital artwork using an QR code on the back of the key. Only five Space Keys were produced.

NFTs are unique identifiers that are recorded on distributed ledgers, such as the Blockchain and linked to a digital asset such as images. It's a hot subject among people with more money than they have common sense. So it was only a question of time before automakers decided to cash in.

The digital artwork

It's dubbed the Space Key, it consists of five physical items that unlock an exclusive digital artwork NFT by a yet-to-be-identified artist. The heart of every Space Key is a block made of the most advanced carbon fire composite material that was shipped to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved using a QR code that links to the digital element in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a separate moment that occurs seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Over 600 million pixels make up each of the five images which were captured by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner used a balloon with a camera that captured each of the individual shots which were then merged into the final image. The result is an out-of-this world image that reveals the beauty of the Earth and the futuristic, hyper-realistic view of the car rising away from it. The Space Keys will be auctioned off soon, but the exact date and time of the auction hasn't been confirmed yet.

The auction

The auctions are scheduled to take place from February 1 to February 4. The auctions will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the time it took Apollo 11 for him to leave Earth and enter the lunar orbit. By making an online registration, you can bid on five NFTs. Each one will be auctioned in a separate auction and the winner will be awarded a digital image created by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five different times the Space Key passed during its journey through space.
