After a series of social media posts that hint at it, Italian supercar-maker Lamborghini has finally announced its first NFT (non-fungible token) project. The project is dubbed Space Key and created in collaboration with an undisclosed artist the project is inspired by a piece advanced carbon fiber composite material that was sent to the International Space Station for research purposes.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social-media posts hinting at it, the luxury car maker Lamborghini finally revealed its first project for non-fungible tokens (NFT). The Space Key is a collection of five physical items that unlocks a unique digital artwork by an unidentified artist. Created in collaboration with NFT PRO(tm) the "collector's item" is limited to five units and will be auctioned off shortly.

The heart of every Space Key is a block of carbon fire composite material. It was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth, the block was engraved using a QR codes that connect to the digital component in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys will feature a separate moment that occurs seconds apart as the Lamborghini Ultimae lifts off toward the stars. Over 600 million pixels up each of the five images which were shot by photographer Fabian Oefner.

Oefner employed an inflatable camera that had a lens to capture the individual images, which were later combined into the final photo. The result is an image that is completely out of the world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic image of a lambo car key rising from the Earth. The Space Keys will be auctioned off in the near future, but the exact date and time of the event haven't been confirmed yet.

The auction
