The Roomba 980 is also able to automatically return to its base station after it's done with its cleaning task, ensuring it's always ready for its next adventure. This feature is only available on the 980, and it's a nice addition that makes the otherwise fairly expensive machine more practical to own.

3. iRobot 985

5. iRobot Roomba 960

A cheaper alternative to the 980, the 960 offers similar performance, but in a smaller. It's still great on carpeted floors and bare rooms, picking up food dust, dirt tracked in and pieces of torn paper with ease. It's also adept in navigating around obstacles and avoiding them. It also does a decent job at cleaning embedded dirt.

This robot utilizes iAdapt navigation 2.0 to track its location. This lets it navigate through the space with ease and avoid being stuck. The top-mounted camera and SLAM work together to allow it to see the floor and its objects, allowing it to deftly dodge furniture legs and other obstacles. It even has a low profile that allows it to get under couches and tables. It is also able to recharge at its dock if it is needed.

Although it doesn't have some of the most advanced features such as map-saving or selective room cleaning, the 960's navigation is superior to other robots. It also has a larger dirt bin than the 690.
