Lamborghini Enters the World of Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs)

Following a series of social media posts hints at it, Italian supercar maker Lamborghini finally revealed its NFT (non fungible token) Project. Space Key is being developed in collaboration with a non-publicized artist and based on advanced carbon fiber composite materials, which were sent to the International Space Station as research material, is a project which was announced by Lamborghini.

Italian supercar maker Lamborghini is dipping its toes into the world of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). The latest project, named the Space Key, is a work of art created in collaboration with an unidentified artist. The NFT is an exclusive piece of digital art that can be accessable via an QR code. The project is a limited edition and will be auctioned off over the next few weeks.

The Space Key is made of carbon composite material that Lamborghini as part of a research project in 2019 was sent to the International Space Station. Once it returned to earth, the carbon fiber was then sculpted into this distinctive artwork. The physical element is inscribed with an NFT serial number, which is tied to the corresponding digital artwork using a QR code that is located on the back.

NFTs, for those who are not familiar are unique identifiers which are stored on a distributed ledger of the blockchain and linked to an digital asset such as a photograph or video, song or any other kind of record. This allows owners to ensure authenticity, scarcity, and trackability of their tokens on the internet.

The digital artwork

After weeks of social media posts hinting at it, the luxury automobile maker Lamborghini finally announced its first project for non-fungible tokens (NFT). It's called the Space Key, it consists of five items that unlock a unique digital artwork created by a yet-to-be-identified artist. The collectors' item was developed in collaboration with NFTPRO(tm) and is limited to five units. It will be auctioned shortly.

At the center of each Space Key is a block made of a high-tech carbon fire composite material, which was sent to the International Space Station in 2019 as part of a research program. After returning to Earth the block was engraved with a QR code that links to the digital component in the Space Key.

Each of the five Space Keys features a different moment that takes place at different times as the Lamborghini Ultimae takes off towards the stars. Each of the five images was filmed by photographer Fabian Oefner and contains over 600 million pixels.

Oefner employed an inflatable camera equipped with lenses to capture the individual images, which were later added to the final picture. The result is a photograph that is completely out of the world. It captures the beauty of Earth and the futuristic, hyperrealistic look of a car rising away from the Earth. The Space lambo keys are going to be auctioned in the near future, however there is no specific date or time yet.

The auction

The auctions, which will be held between February 1 through February 4, will last for 75 hours and 50 minutes - the same time it took Apollo 11 to leave Earth and enter lunar orbit. The five NFTs can be bought by registering online. Each one will be auctioned in a separate auction and the winner will be awarded an artwork digitally created by renowned photographer Fabian Oefner, which captures the five different times the Space Key passed during its journey through space.
