They are light and come with a soft carrying case and can be folded flat to fit in your bag. The controls on their touch screen are easy to use and intuitive and their battery lasts for 30 hours with ANC switched off. The headphones come with an automatic pause feature that shuts the headphones off when you remove them from your head. This helps conserve battery.

The WH-1000XM5 is compatible with Sony's Headphones Connect app which offers an extensive array of features that can be used to customize your audio experience. The app can be used to track your location and adjust ambient sound features based on the environment you are in. The microphone is included for hands-free phone calls. The Sony WH-1000XM5 are compatible to play music using Bluetooth or with a wired connection using the included cable. They can support aptX, HD aptX and aptX Adaptive codecs that deliver high quality audio over Bluetooth.

The WH-1000XM5 comes with the same headband and earcups to the XM4 but is more lightweight and comfortable. They're comfortable to wear for long periods and are comfortable enough for commutes as well as longer flights. They're noise-cancelling Headphones Shop that can reduce background noise but not sacrifice clarity or clarity. The Sony WH1000XM5 headphones feature an excellent amount of bass, particularly for a closed-back pair. They also have an impressive soundstage and clear separation between vocals and instruments.

The low latency is a big benefit. The lag is so minimal that it's practically imperceptible and they can be used for casual gaming. They're not the best choice for competitive video games though and are ideal for those who will be using them for media consumption and to make calls that are hands-free.

Sony is dedicated to incorporating smart features into its products, and the WH1000XM5 is no exception. The active noise cancellation was one of the best that I've used and they have an array of clever features that will enhance your listening experience. Sony's DSEE Extreme Engine upscales compressed audio to a near-hi-res format. They're also compatible with Sony's own LDAC technology which streams higher-bitrate audio via Bluetooth (although not as high-quality as the headphone DAC that's dedicated).

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones, the PX7 S2 have been consistently on the top lists of wireless headsets since the introduction of the first-generation PX7 in the year 2015. They are in the same category as Sony WH1000XM5 and Bose QuietComfort. The PX7 S2 is the latest version that takes the original headphones up a notch with improved ANC performance and a refreshed appearance.

In the earcups, 40mm bio cellulose drivers are bent to point straight at your eardrums, delivering an audio experience that is more intimate than most closed-back headphones. The PX7 S2 is a perfect example of this claim with a fervent zeal. The vocals are clear, and the bass is deep when needed.

The PX7 S2 also performs very well with voice calls, and has a clear and crisp audio that doesn't overpower your own voice. The PX7 S2 is also able to provide a quick charge, which will allow you to return to full capacity in less than two hours. They're also compatible with hi-res music, thanks to the aptX adaptive Bluetooth codesc, which allows them to play audio with 24-bit quality.

The noise-canceling technology and improved audio performance are among the most important upgrades for most listeners. In our tests, the PX7 S2 eliminated nearly all of our simulated aircraft cabin noise with impressive efficiency and performed exceptionally when we performed Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus from his Grosse Messe, demonstrating excellent insight into the shifting dynamics between the solo voice, wind trio, and orchestral accompaniment.

They are fully wireless and feature Bluetooth multipoint support, so you can pair with two devices at once. They're not perfect, but they are. The clamp force of our test models were slightly higher than we would have liked, and there weren't as many apps features as other options. However, these aren't major issues. The PX7 S2s are a superb wireless headphone that rivals the best in their class, and it's difficult to imagine them being defeated by any other headphone.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

Focal Bathys is the ideal choice for audiophiles that value high-quality sound and are in search of headphones that can be used wirelessly to block out noise. The Focal Bathys are the very first ANC headphones from a French audio company that utilizes Bluetooth. They provide incredible sound both in Bluetooth mode and when connected via USB to a device that supports true hi-fi listening at up to 24bit/192kHz.

The Bathys are stunning with their glossy finish and swooping curvatures that are like Focal's closed-back Celestee and open-back Elear headphones. They also feature premium materials like magnesium and aluminum to create solid construction that is comfortable, solid and worth the price.

The Bathys Bluetooth headphones offer a crisp, lively sound quality. They easily outperform consumer ANC devices of similar price such as the Sony XM5/5 and Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode allows them to be further pushed and makes them an excellent choice for Headphones Shop true hifi enthusiasts.

The Focal &Naim app allows users to adjust the playback controls of the headphone and Bluetooth pairing preferences. The app allows users to select between silent and soft intensities for ANC. They can also adjust the brightness of the LEDs that are on the earcups of the headphones, as well as alter the EQ settings. The app is not complete, but it offers enough functionality to warrant the cost of downloading.

The only flaw is the active noise cancellation, which isn't able to live up to the quality of the competition. The headphone isn't able to block out all background noise as effectively as the top-rated XM5 and AirPods Max. Its treble accuracy is also a bit off, with a muddy mid-to-high range that obstructs the instruments and vocals.

The Focal Bathys aren't the most portable headphones. The ear cups aren't foldable up and weigh a bit heavier than their counterparts, which means that they're not suitable for use on the road. They're more suited to an environment at home where they can be used for long listening sessions or as an example headphone for sound engineering purposes. Despite their size and weight they Bathys are surprisingly comfortable to wear for extended durations of time.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WHCH720N headset is a great pair of wireless over ear headsets at a reasonable price. They have a solid noise-cancelling system that is capable of reducing ambient noise, making them perfect for commuters and travellers. They also offer a nice design that reflects premium quality, thanks to their robust construction and attractive matte finish.

They are similar to Sony's XB910N and 1000X headphone models. They sport a slim headband, with the typical ear cup hinges and a solid plastic construction. They're lightweight and comfortable to wear, however they feel a little too compressed for my liking. They come with a USB-C charging port, 3.5mm jack and a decent-length cable included in the box. They are multipoint Bluetooth, which means you can connect to two devices simultaneously should you wish to.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid technology for noise cancellation did an excellent job of reducing ambient sound. There were only a few small blips while walking through Waterloo Station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers weren't able to block every sound in the vicinity, but they did struggle with lower frequency sounds like the engine rumbling sound of trains and buses.

Streaming music through the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth, and it showed a low amount of harmonic distortion. I tried a variety of genres and found that they were able to handle the intricate interplay between instruments well. It did a great job of controlling the bass in rock tracks while keeping the focus of the mix.

The Sony Headphones Connect App allows users to modify the CH720N's multipoint connectivity as well as ANC settings to your liking. You can also add a variety of audio presets. You can also activate DSEE through the app, which improves the quality of sound and boosts compression of audio files.

The WH-CH720N is an excellent value for PS130. It lacks some of Sony's best features (such as Speak-toChat and Quick Attention) however it comes with numerous amazing features. 360 Reality Audio, smart controls and DSEE upscaling feature are all included. The only thing missing is LDAC Bluetooth high-res audio support, which I think would have been a great inclusion.
